Wonder what sorta job Matt Barlow could do for Nevermore? Didnt he do band with Van Williams? Maybe an option?

Quote from: Ducky on December 02, 2024, 10:21:56 PMOoooh Pierce Williams is my favourite drummer in metal right now.

Sadly Pierce left the band during last Euro run - Ruston Grosse was filling in on recent US run and think he is doing this upcoming Euro tour as well

I reckon lot of it depends on your reasoning for doing it/what you are expecting to get out of it. If you want to be out touring, recording etc that's fair enough, but I would be of the opinion it should be about something that brings you form of joy first and foremost! No point doing and subjecting yourself to all sorts of work and effort, just to go and complain about it - the only reason for doing that is ego and really not doing it for yourself and the smile it should bring to your face.
I reconnected with a drummer I used to jam with decades back, a while ago, and we have great craic just getting together every fortnight usually, and just belting through load of Old School Death Metal tracks we love and randomly write bits of our own stuff. No plans, preconceptions etc - just 3 solid hours of playing the music we love and it does what it should do - brings a smile to our faces!
It amazes me the amount of people we see/run into in the rehearsal place that can't seem to process we just do it for joy of playing our instruments/music we love, and not having a band name really seems to confuse them!!?
I mean did any of you first start playing with thoughts of it being anything more than fun/hobby/craic with your mates?

Quote from: Barrytron on May 12, 2023, 08:23:16 AMAre you asking should bands expect to be paid for support slots, or that the band should pay to get the slot?

Not really asking 'should they', but more what are the expectations/standards nowadays from underground bands.Just interested to know is it standard for bands to expect payment for gigs now, regardless of whether its 'local, no punters' or 'lucrative support' kinda show? Kinda question bands or promoters dont wanna answer really🤣

After a recent conversation, it got me wondering what are the expectations from local bands in relation to payments for local bills and support slots nowadays? I always figured it was just an honour to get a support slot with bigger band and local gigs were usually just craic and honing skills? Is it standard now asking for say €100 when asked if you want prestigious support slot? Played gigs with Suffocation, Entombed, D.O.D. Fest etc and not a cent, sandwich or beer in return, hugely outta pocket for travel, van hire etc. but didnt care!! All different now?

Quote from: yknaa on April 19, 2023, 04:17:39 PMI see they were on the Dominion Festival bill which has since gone south. Wonder will it impact on the Irish dates. Been to plenty gigs with just a handful turning up and wondering if this might suffer the same fate.

Doesnt one of the Night Demon guys live in Derry currently? Maybe Dominion situation wont impact them as much?

As the man himself (and the shirt) would state -
'Extreme Music For Extreme People'

I take it as standard that people who have created something of genius, like he has, are 'unhinged' in some form!

Quote from: Pagan Saviour on April 23, 2023, 03:30:30 PMThe stuff about Tucker not playing Ireland again isn't true, this lineup was booked to plate two shows here around the time of Kingdom's Disdains release a few years back. The whole tour got pulled because of Tuckers convictions (Treys DUI hadn't happened yet). I think the odds of them touring anywhere other than the USA are grim.

Have seen talk from various US bands about convictions causing all sorts of trouble getting out, and back in!, in recent years as a consequence of America just generally being a bit crazy these days!!

Quote from: Despondent_Soul2 on April 23, 2023, 11:32:52 AMIs the Euro touring thing for MA not related as much to Tuckers convictions?

You can easily get into most European countries if not all with convictions. US, Oz and Canada for the most part are the countries where you will face issues. I know a promoter in Canada that wanted to bring MA over there a few times but couldn't because Trey has numerous DUIs. A recent video from last year that I am not going to post here was going around of Trey arrested under the influence in Florida last year.

My guess is they are too old and not bothered travelling around Europe in a van at least in the US they are still in their own country when touring so if they want to go home earlier or anything it is much easier.

What I've read here previously (*unverifiable internet anecdote alert*) is that Tucker skipped bail here in Ireland (he lived here for a while) while awaiting sentence (or just the trial, can't remember) for spousal abuse and hightailed it back to the States. I imagine this could very definitely cause problems for him if he were to come back to Europe - indeed I can't see any other reason that they haven't.

Yeah it was that situation with Tucker rather than Trey i was referring. I thought he served his time (or at least some of it), but that the conviction might prove problematic to his leaving America.
