Law enforcement officials initially said they couldn't retrieve footage from Nancy Guthrie's doorbell camera because she didn't subscribe to a particular service.
She had a Google Nest doorbell – according to a clip now made public – which provides 30 days of video history with a subscription, but just three hours of footage without it.
The video, released by the FBI on Tuesday, shows a masked person tampering with the camera on the morning of her disappearance.
Authorities did not explicitly state how they eventually managed to get the video, but according to Google's privacy policy, footage from all its devices is sent back to the company. This means Google should be able to retrieve specific videos.
FBI director Kash Patel told Fox News this evening that by working with partners in the private sector, the FBI were able to lawfully "go into their systems and actually excavate material that people would think would normally be deleted and no-one would look for."

Very sad news. Was at that gig too, just amazing to hear the great early Manowar stuff played up close with some heart.

There are a lot of people who think, genuinely, that if they put a line into Suno, they have written a song. I used to participate in another forum where they had a monthly composition challenge, the idea being you'd write and record a song, within a few weeks, based on an image nominated by someone. It was a musician-orientated forum, so people who played real instruments. There were occasions where AI stuff was submitted and, subsequently, a discussion on the eligibility of AI stuff with the phrase "I wrote this song with AI" used in a non-ironic way several times. It's like getting takeaway delivered and saying you made dinner.
