Metal Discussion / Re: Controversial Metal Opinions
April 16, 2020, 05:16:52 PM
Metallica at Slane were awful. James looked like shit. Of course we now know he was off the wagon.

Black Sabbath are not the Godfathers of heavy metal, they are just one of the great heavy metal bands. Sharon made up the Godfather thing in the 00s, she told young bands on Ozzfest to say it in interviews. Before that when bands were asked about their influences they mentioned Hendrix, Zeppelin, Purple, Sabbath and more.

The irony of it all, it that Iron Maiden have an album in my top 5 of all time, while Priest don't, so not a Maiden hater by any means, but fuck Dickinson in this instance....

ah he's not having a go at Halford, just laughing at the absurdity of putting 3 words of a chorus from a bands biggest hit on a prompter.

Seventh son of a seventh son
Seventh son of a seventh son
Seventh son of a seventh son
Seventh son of a seventh son
Seventh son of a seventh son
Seventh son of a seventh son

bruce can repeat a lot too :)

Great memories coming back of Shake Your Money Maker now. What an album. I saw them at Donington and later in Dublin on that tour. Great energy. Great band.

The music tempts me ... it's been a long time since the National Stadium in '91 i think.

But the band ... two brothers who seemingly hate each other and original members in the press talking about cash grab tours.

Fair play to them if they can fill the 3Arena.

Would Redemption Fest not be considered an Irish Indigenous Metal Festival too with an Irish headliner, Irish promoter, etc. Just curious how this one is billed as the first?

I'd have more time for BNW, some great stuff on it, they sounded somewhat rejuvenated on that album. Everything else has been a go through the motions affair.

There is an argument that BNW is the most important metal album of the decade ... a reunion with Bruce and Adrian, a return to form, the start of Ed Force One, it kicked off a decade of history tours and studio albums. Sure there are better albums, but to reunite and kick off the decade ahead it was a brilliant statement.

QuoteIron Maiden - Book of Souls

Dreadful album. How it could be on anyone's album of the decade list beggars belief. There really is some absolutely horrific material on there even by maidens standards. I will give that the earlier part contains some cool tracks, Eternity, Great unknown etc although the better tracks only serve to remind you of former glories. Tears of a clown is catastrophic, toe curling to the extreme, Empire of the clouds completely insufferable- those two alone negate it being on any end of year list.

Horses for courses. I loved BNW and BOS whereas AMOLAD and TFF did absolutely nothing for me. BOS also brought a great Eddie with a classic stage set. All in all a great package.

I was really quite surprised when Blind Guardian sold out the Academy a few years ago ... great crowd great gig ... reading metalireland/metalwarfare i didn't guess there was such interest here. Looks like the same goes for Demons n Wizards.

Haven't seen much talk of this online, how was it?

Really good fun. Very glad I went. He spoke for an hour and forty, break for 20 and then answered a lot of audience questions. He finished with Revelations acapella.

The talk was largely full of music related stories with a theme I suppose of things in your childhood inspire you in life. Started with being born to circus act parents, raised by granddad and RAF uncle and then off to private school. Lots of stories about how he started singing through to Samson and Maiden. He does a great impression of Nicko. Add in a bit about bad style choices, a few adventures, fencing, cancer, playing Sarajevo, Ed Force One and more.

I enjoyed him most when he was answering questions, more off the cuff and funny. No they never burned an Irish flag. He answered Fuck Off to questions about The Trooper and the Union Jack because it's about the Charge of the Light Brigade and nothing to do with Ireland. Told some funny stories about the Queen, Martin McGuinness and hookers in Hamburg.

A good crowd. Guess it was 80% full or more.

Gigs and Festivals / Re: Hellfest 1 day tickets?
December 04, 2019, 03:27:31 PM
That's exactly what I was hoping to hear thank you celestinebabayaro!

I'll be taking the kids to France for a summer holiday so likely to only get away for one day.

Mainstage 02 on Saturday and Sunday would be my cup of tea with Infectious Grooves on Mainstage 01 on Saturday likely to swing it for me.

Gigs and Festivals / Hellfest 1 day tickets?

Can anyone tell me if Hellfest release one day tickets?

I see 3 day tickets are sold out. Don't see any mention of 1 day. I haven't been to Hellfest before hence appreciate the info.

St. Patrick's Cathedral is great. Saw The Hothouse Flowers there maybe five years ago. Fantasic acoustics and plenty of Dearly Beloved jokes.
