Savage, hadn't come across them before.
Was on a trip to Grenada in Spain about 4 years ago and our friend took us to Los Saicos Bar (the owner was a huge fan of the group).
We all started dancing to the blasting sounds as soon as we walked in the door.
A great night was had. Was in Grenada the Christmas before last and unfortunately the bar isn't open anymore.
The bar owner had his own Punk band Zutaten (ZTTN) so I picked up their LP album Leggingrad which he had behind the bar.

When I was a young fella, Dischord Records was one of those labels that was a sure sign of quality. I used to buy records without hearing a note. Very rarely did I get a dud from their catalogue. Some of the records that I still reach for today were bought from them 15+ years ago.
Lungfish
Nation Of Ulysses
Rites of Spring
Jawbox
Q & Not U
Faraquet ("The View From This Tower" is a masterpiece)
and obviously Fugazi.
The Dischord 20 box-set is well worth the very reason price they ask for it.
I had End Hits and In on the Kill Taker on the other day for the first time in years. So good.

Yeah, man - two killer records. I would argue that Fugazi didn't release a sub-par album (if you ignore the "Instrument" soundtrack/demos record which isn't really an album).
Their last - "The Argument" is a stunning piece of work.
They were deadly live too.
I love Minor Threat but I have just never latched onto Fugazi...any recommendation is very welcome.
Punk...so much good stuff and so much I have never even heard.
The Dead Boys albums are a great listen. Massive Stooges influence, they were pure danger back in the day. It seems very tame now of course, but violence and nihilism and just great tunes.
The Gun Club album Miami is one I became obsessed eith a few years back. That American Gothicy, desertlands vibe. All whiskey and Mexicans and a massive influebce on the White Stripes amongst others. The main lads in the band are from Mexican American heritage too..Kid Congo the guitarist. Classs. I think they were mates with or at least a big ingluence on Nick Cave.
I would nearly say any Fugazi record but I would probably start with the ones that McLove mentioned already. "In On The Kill Taker" and "End Hits" plus I would also add in "Steady Diet Of Nothing". All three are worthwhile starting points.
Gun Club is some good stuff. Definitely influenced by The Birthday Party/Nick Cave. Jeffrey Lee Pierce was buddies with Mark Lanegan too.
Another band that I've been re-listening to a lot recently is Drive Like Jehu and some of their off-shoots - Hot Snakes and The Night Marchers. John Swami Reis is fairly prolific.
Saw Kid Congo with his band The Pink Monkeybirds in Pine Lodge a few years ago (the last year of it being a venue, I'm fairly sure), they were class
Fugazi are of course great but I'd argue that they and a lot of the bands mentioned over the last few posts and also a lot of Dischord stuff aren't really true punk bands, more like post punk or some other more accurate label. That said the Fugazi gig in the RedBox here in the early 2000s was phenomenal, would have loved to have seen them in the 80s/90s though.

Add Repeater (1990) to that Fugazi list too.
And of their 'newer' releases I'd add The Argument (2001).....

I had a ticket for that gig but ended up having a silly row with my girlfriend of the time. We had made up and were sitting in the pub and I was weighing up in my head whether to head up to the gig or not. I ended up deciding I'd hang on with her and turned around and asked the guy behind us if he liked Fugazi and wanted a free ticket, which he did. I thought, I'll catch them next time. They split up soon after

The Argument has slowly become my favourite of theirs -- was always hard to pick a favourite as their discography is deadly across the board. Even 13 songs, which was just 3 EPs re-released sounds like a proper debut album. One of those bands who had really established their sound right from the start.
Repeater's the only one that did it for me TBH, but what an album that is. I'd love to have seen them live.
In terms of punk, Subhumans are THE punk band for me, the only one I'd bither with anymore. EP:LP and The Day The Country Died are untouchable:

The creators i.e. Sex Pistols, Clash: absolutely flawless bands. The Ramones, The Stooges..love them.
Nothing like some Dead Kennedys..
https://youtu.be/sgpa7wEAz7I
And of course, the band I love like my own Ma, the Misfits
They literally had NO bad song. Everything catchy as absolute fuck and years ahead of its time. Ironic, violent, nasty, romantic..pure genius. I listened them to death in college, was absolutely obsesssed with them. Still have the Coffin box set..well worth picking up if it's still available.
https://youtu.be/7ON8zNL3e7c
A band that changed literally everything
https://youtu.be/bFHEuKkTa5k
The impact they had on the modern world is something to behold. From the musical influences they championed to fashion, clothing..stuff we are all walking around wearing nowadays was stuff thry were throwing together in warehouses back in the late 70's. A brilliant, brilliant band too. London Calling is the gem, but all their albums are essential.
Stiff Little Fingers. The soundtrack to the Troubles. Amazoballs!
https://youtu.be/lZ-hYnANRLM
In a world where everyone is apeing everyone else, where movies are just rehashes of ideas that were done to death 40 years ago, imagine something came out that was as unique, new and fresh as this must have sounded at the time. Pure energy, a million miles from these dead eyed twats that have infested every nook and cranny of modern music with their joyless vomit that they call music; all style and a total dearth of anything remotely akin to substance.
A proper song, a proper band..class.

The Ramones: so many 3 minute classics. Just perfect......
Bad Brains- what a killer band they were.
An obvious choice but, man, Rancid were untouchable in their day. I just stuck on Life Won't Wait (their last great album, I reckon) for the first time in a few years. This is their pinnacle for me. It's just stupidly, insanely catchy. I remember being disappointed when I listened to it initially but after a couple of spins I was completely hooked.
Runnin' Riot- Reclaim the Streets on now. Rough as a bear's arse but such a great album.
The Stooges. I almost think their demos and B sides are better than almost everything they released as albums, apart from Fun House of course.

Love this album but I find too sprawling and it just drags a bit. Rancids last great album was the next one, the self titled one with skull on the cover, everything after was just disappointing, I partly blame Brody Dalle and probably just age also!

Never heard Chelsea before. That song is savage. Great vocals.
Also, you can't go wrong with The Ruts. I was listening to Jah War earlier.
Yeah it's a deadly song, pure urgency in the vocals. Can't say I know much about them either, think I heard that on a radio show last year and it stuck with me.
Shithatt from Ballina were fucking great, sadly called it a day last year. Well worth checking out.

Still reckon nevermind the bollocks is the greatest punk album of all time. Otherwise I've very little time for most punk.
Never been bettered if all truth be told. Everything that came afterwards was some sort of an imitation, albeit some amazing imitations at that. London Calling would be on a par though in a very different way.

The Bad Brains tape and Rock For Light is where the real breakneck hardcore stuff is at. Both contain many of the same tracks but recorded and produced differently. Both are worth the go.
After that they went down a bit of an experimental route with different styles of music with the album I Against I. Has a similar similar feel to early Faith No More but with a few straight up punk tunes.

Listening to Strikniën DC's 'Ghettoblast' album this morning. 25 odd years old now. Savage punk record.
I have that somewhere, mighty stuff. They were great back then. Anyone remember Hellvision, Deko's band between them and Paranoid Visions? Another good one, I saw them with Oi Polloi, I think it was. Mid '90s.

Couple of Canadian bands who are part of an interesting take on punk that's emerging here (not sure if this is everywhere or just here). Kind of 80s vibe, chorus-soaked guitars cross between punk and The Cure. Home Front are a little more on The Cure side, Schedule 1 a little more on the punk.

These lads, The Dirty Nil, are also from Canada. Their newest record sounds like Weezer on steroids but this one "Higher Power" is raw edged.

And I reckon that IDLES owe them a few quid - their song "Never Fight A Man With A Perm" has more than a passing resemblance to The Dirty Nil's "Lowlives"

I knew that Fred Armisen was in a band during the 1990s - pre-comedy - but I never listened to them. Heard him on a podcast the other day so I looked them up. Not much online - there's this compilation though and Trenchmouth are very good if a bit too much Fugazi worshiping

Ah right, I thought it was a separate band altogether.
Just recently got into Husker Du and holy shit they are amazing. I've been listening to nothing but Zen Arcade for over a week now. Particularly I Will Never Forget You, which I can't pass by on the album without listening to it at least 3 or 4 times in a row. Seem like one of those great bands that never got anywhere near the general recognition they deserved, but influenced a ton of other much bigger bands. Bob Mould has one of the best screaming voices I've ever heard and the pure vitriol and energy of the music is astonishing.
They're great alright, Metal Circus is a personal favourite. Just an EP but a great range of stuff in the space of 6 or 7 songs - including Diane.
Are The Offspring playing live in this video? I can't tell. (Am I thick?)
If they are - it's seriously impressive that there's no slacking on the playing/vocals given that they recorded that song 30 years ago.
Also - Dexter Holland is looking like an albino James Hetfield these days.

Gash Factory  I enjoyed that though. Vocals were a little bit Ian Curtis, little bit Bauhaus.
Very Ian Curtis. In that both of them are dead.
Was listening to Hawkwind 'Silver Machine' earlier, proper proto punk :abbath:

It really is. It still sounds odd to me - my first exposure to the song was the rerecording on Choose Your Masques, a (cheap, no doubt last minute scramble for a) christmas present from my uncle back in the day - so the original still sounds like the 'other' version to me.
Choon though.
Here's my current punk band. Leaning into the garage punk end of things.
Cool song and very cool video. Nice work.

Lots of love for the Saints.
