Hopefully this thread will drum up some cool recommendations from films/games etc. As a kid soundtracks were what I listened to before I got into rock/metal etc.

Always get very nostalgic listening back to a lot of this stuff but one that stood out at the time was this soundtrack from the not so successful game 'The Dig'.  Love the way this starts off ->

Great voice acting and story line but the puzzles were a letdown. Any favourites?

The entire FFVII soundtrack.  I adore it, Nobuo Uematsu is savage.  Some real gems in there but overall the whole thing is great.  Nearly breaks my heart trying to listen to some of it nowadays.  anxious heart, aeris' theme, and main theme especially.

Silent Hill OST.  First song is normal enough, then it turns into the actual horror soundtrack.  Really deadly, nervewracking and violent, filled with industrial noise and ominous keyboard.  Couldn't recommend it enough.

I already shited on about my love for the PSX Doom soundtrack in the MI version of this thread.

Recent films wise the Mandy soundtrack was great. Unsettling.

Have you listened to Voices of the Lifestream? A 4 CD compilation of fan made interpretations of the FF7 soundtrack. Huge mix of genres and some amazing musicians. Particularly loved the piano interpretation of Red XIII's theme of when he finds out his da is a hero.

The "Mandy" soundtrack is doing the job for me recently.

John Carpenter - The Fog.

Eerie sounds, mostly just piano with a lot of reverb, but simple and effective.

Really love the official score for GTA V. Collaboration with Tangerine Dream and a few others. Almost sounds like a movie soundtrack

The Crank 2 soundtrack is a good listen for mike patton fans.

John Carpenter's score for the last Halloween movie is absolutely brilliant. Other than that The Beyond, Suspira, Conan the Barbarian and various Goblin/Claudio Simonetti scores

Nothing beats the epicness of transformers the movie 1985!

You got the touch... you got the poweeeeer!

Mad Max Fury Road has a deadly soundtrack, perfect accompaniment to all the madness happening on screen. I'm glad I got to see it in the cinema, the sound was perfect.

Another shout for the FFVII soundtrack for anybody who hasn't heard it. I love nearly all of the various alternate piano/orchestral versions available as well. This is nice:

Also an obvious one for me, given that I listen to NIN nearly every day: Any of the Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross soundtracks. My favourite is The Vietnam War but they are all good and the latest one, which is 4 tracks for the Mid90s soundtrack, is beautiful sparse piano stuff.

This track sums it up fairly enough:

Whenever I hear that it reminds of that scene in 'Boogie Nights' when Dirk Diggler is doing a (bad) version of the song in a recording studio trying to get a music career off the ground  ;D

Great choices. Not overly familiar with Silent Hill but i have heard a few tunes from the franchise that blow me away.

As far as Nobuo Uematsu is concerned, The man is an absolute genius.

Aerith's theme is a real beautiful piece of music, Written at a time in his life when his mother had passed.
So,  a lot of that hurt was woven into Aerith's theme and other tunes in the FF7 soundtrack.

I prefer FF8 soundtrack personally but that's because it was my first FF game, Equally amazing soundtrack.

Another fantastic video game soundtrack is Shenmue, I have the HD remaster on steam but haven't had the time to sink into it.

110%

Out of all of them Adagio is superb, my favourite track by far.
