Bad Sound

I didn't really know where to put this but here will do...

Coming off the back of the reported sound issues at the Stevie Wonder gig, how the fuck in this day and age can a modern closed in venue have sound issues?

Is it incompetence, technical issues? Shouldn't a sound check resolve this up front?
