I worked for 11 years taking 999 calls for the fire service for connaught and donegal. Summer was an absolute shit show with the gorse fires. I remember 37 different fires in Galway one day. You'd be getting calls where you'd have no fire station able to attend. Now if it was a serious house fire or car crash they'd leave the gorse fire but some calls wouldn't get answered for hours. The fire lads are some hardy bastards. No nonsense and great craic. I do miss the job but shift work was a cunt.
The stories I could tell about that job are insane. Got the call for the worst traffic accident in ireland, the one with the 9 lads in 1 car that hit another car with 9 fatalities in total. Insane shit.

A friend of mine attended a call where his friend was decapitated. Another attended a crash where he had to take a burned baby out of wreckage - the same fella cut his cousin down after a suicide.

Anyone in the emergency services has my utmost respect.
