New album my these guys!

Always a mystery what these two will come up with!

The cover art is great, for a change... but they could never be bothered with covers really.

Looking forward to listening to it. After Fenriz comment mentioning the resemblance to Candlemass' "Epicus..." I hope there's less heavy metal incursions and more slow tempo Darkthrone as in Ravishing Grimness.

I'll give this a listen when it comes out. I've been 50/50 on later Darkthrone. Article Thunder was enjoyable enough.

Yeah I'm not sure if we need another DT album after the last few. Personally not a fan of the last few. I'll stick with the first few methinks

Time for another cover band from the earlier days methinks??  ;)

I don't hate their later stuff but it's a fact that if it were released under a different name only about five people would own it  :abbath:

Definitely a lot more of an old school doom vibe going on there. I'm liking it, looking forward to hearing the whole album.

The way they write one half of the album each though makes it tough to judge what direction the album will take overall just from the one track.

I'm a big fan of Darkthrone. Start, middle and the later stuff. But this isn't catching me at all. I love that first riff, getting real Pagan Altar vibes, but then it's just the same over and over again, it's really repetitive and doesn't go anywhere. And the vocals just seem unenthusiastic and forced. Leaves a lot to be desired...

Cover art is sick though!

Dreadful altogether, someone quite rightly pointed out that if the name Darkthrone didn't appear anywhere this would be roundly ignored.

Hard to believe these lads were responsible for both Soulside Journey and the trilogy of Black Metal records that are still revered today such is the volume of complete shit they've released practically ever since.

That's fucking mediocre, lads.

Two decent sections that drag on for too long.  Should either have cut it in half or developed in more.  I like the actual sound though and am willing to give the album a go.

These days it literally sounds like the lads meet up, have a few tins and whatever riff is the best out of any given session equals a seven minute song.

I've been an instant Darkthrone fan since I first heard it and really like all the albums even if I don't get why a song or another has even been written under the Darkthrone moniker. Said that, they had never changed - to a certain extent - their tones. Either more or less well produced, the Darkthrone sound was always there, and this time it just vanished completely. Fenriz wasn't exagerating when he mentioned Candlemass as a reference...

This new song sounds like any other band playing this style. To put it as a friend once politely remarked on mediocre music, "almost decent".

I personally follow this criteria: would I give it credit wasn't the (strong) name Darkthrone attached to it? Probably not, so one either genuinely enjoys the new song (which can be the shitty one in the whole album, who knows) or saying it is a good song is just a struggle to admit they could have finally lost it altogether.

Hope the other songs are far better than this...

Yup, instantly forgettable and middle of the road.  But the sound (for DT anyway) isn't bad.

I'll stick with Soulside/Blaze I think.
