I have never been, am going next year.  Rather than take over the Neurosis thread on the main forum, said I'd start a thread here.

Looking forward to this, have no idea what I am in for, does accomodation get any better value, when does the camping open up and how much of a bollix is it flying from Ireland with a tent

Any tips and the usual appreciated, assume I will see a few lads from here for a pint at it.

If you're taking a tent from Ireland, I'd wager you're better stick it in the hold, as tent pegs would be deemed as "sharp objects"...
I used to just buy a tent when I got to wherever the festival was on...

Cheers, I see that link is for last year but that's grand it gives me an idea of when/how to expect it going up.  Looks like about €50 to check in a tent as sports gear, that's grand.  Mentally planning a backup but I am keeping the eyes out for hotels, flats, usual first.

Tilburg is notoriously hard/expensive to get accommodation in. Breda, 's-Hertogenbosch and even Eindhoven are all close cities to Tilburg, and are no time on the train (15 - 25 mins) if you don't mind being outside Tilburg...

Very easy to get there from Ireland, the trains from Schiphol are very very regular and there's a good few routes that'll get you there. You can pay by tapping on at the gate with your debit card as well, don't even need to buy a ticket.

Camping is down past the train station, great location and likely the cheapest you'll manage in the town. I've never done the campsite but it seems very well set up and the craic looks good. If you don't want to sleep in a tent (the weather is mental usually, can be fairly cold at night) you've towns around close by, Breda and Eindhoven being sizeable ones accessible by rail, late enough trains, but the festival actually puts on late night buses out to Eindhoven every night and the prices are more sane than Tilburg. Know a good few people manage to get lucky with B&Bs and holiday rentals so you might swing something in the town if you keep an eye out.

There's a gang of us stay out in the safari park just south of Tilburg (Beekse Bergen) which is funny as fuck, you get a nice little holiday lodge in the park so you could be waking up next to lions, or seals, whatever is in the enclosure.

Get a feed into you in Xu Noodle Bar and you'll be right for the day. They've a lot of food stalls near the venues as well that are usually solid and quick as well. Buitenbeentje bar on the main strip for the late night pints if you're feeling so inclined, they serve till 3:30 am-ish (grand Guinness for 6 quid if you're craving a stout) and you'll meet plenty of the artists playing there (sat across from Steve Von Till a few nights).

There's two venues big enough that you can basically wander into whenever and be fine, but for the smaller ones you do have to commit to showing up a little early if you want to be guaranteed a spot for something you really want to see, they'll operate one-in one out when they're at capacity, so you could be waiting in a queue in that case. They always have a load of "secret" shows that they announce on the day, and they're usually good craic, some bands that were never announced beforehand, as well as extra sets from bands on the bill. Quite a few of these happen in the skatepark, and it's worth going to if there's anything you like happening there.

It has ruined every other festival for me, it's like someone plugged straight into my brain and pandered to what I'm looking for (Lankum into Khanate into Cult Leader into Blood Incantation was a pretty memorable run in that sense, but they've managed it every year I've been). I've a feeling it'll be similar craic for yourself.
