Quote from: The Heretic on February 04, 2025, 09:05:13 AMU2 are another one that get shat on quite a bit, not sure is it musical or for their politics or both?

Their entire existence. And g'way with the early post punk excuses too! Shower of gobshites.
Pity the lads in Ballina didn't batter them enough when they played there in the early days!

Pre-signing, U2 played in Salthill in Galway (Seapoint, possibly?). Bongo was already throwing the rockstar shapes, white cowboy boots and all. Had his foot on a monitor, which didn't go down well with the punks at the front, so they pulled his boot off -it was never seeen again. He left the stage in tears when they wouldn't give it back.

Bush and U2. What a cunt of a thread!?!

Was it Grohl who wore a "Bu$h" t-shirt. Fairly apt. Rosedale did an album with Page Hamilton a while back, Institute. Rosedale is a gowl but he's not a bad singer and that album was decent. Certainly better than Bush.

Is the foot on the monitor a big no no?
I thought it was done as it's probably comfortable every now and then if you are standing for a while.

There are a lot of kvlt types who think Pantera, Cannibal Corpse, and Cradle of Filth got popular by playing dumbed down versions of thrash, death, and black metal.

Bloodthirst and Dusk and Her Embrace are two of my favourite albums, but I can kind of understand why CC and COF are perceived as lowest common denominator death and black metal.

Any Pantera fans agree that Phil's hardcore posturing and the groove aspects of Pantera's music helped foster in an era of dumbass nu-metal and bands like Hatebreed?  ;)

No.

Hatebreed stole way more musically from Entombed (mostly riffs)than Pantera. But the gobshite fan base would definitely crossover 😂
(I do enjoy both bands. Not a gobshite though 😂).

Nu Metal does get a lot of flack when it's harmless enough and a gateway for young wans to get into metal. There's plenty of lads on the board who were scatting along with Johnathan Davis before hearing Blood,Fire Death.

I think it was more the posturing, preening and affectation that came with it. The foot's proximity offered an opportunity.

Hatebreed - Satisfaction Is The Death of Desire achieves more in less than a half hour than what many bands do in a career. It is what it is and it might not be for you, but its nailed on, zero fat.

Yes, all day. Perseverance, Rise Of Brutality and Supremacy are all brilliant.
Once Jamie Jasta decided that some melodic singing would be a good idea things went sideways.
Also Sean Martin had a massive presence love, the other fella doesn't  have that punch.

I'd say you haven't went far enough. The posturing and grooves helped usher in an era of bands so shit and embarrassing that it reflected back on Pantera so badly that people hate them somewhat unfairly now too because of it.

Every time I hear Bono being interviewed I'm torn between how he often speaks intelligently, but is so unbelievably pretentious he's hard to listen to. He called his daughter Memphis Eve. A pretentious name from a pretentious person. She sensibly goes by Eve now.

Yer man doesn't have a feckin chin😂

Frank is decent though, plus he was in Integrity for bonus points.

Slipknot. I've never cared at all for their music, but as a commercial band and a gateway to heavier sounds, they're perfect.

True. First two albums are still good fun and Jordison was an excellent drummer.

My eldest seems to have discovered them, Korn and Deftones recently so hopefully he'll use them as a stepping stone.
