Yup. Good catchy pop rock with a, perhaps atria stage spurring
superficial, dark metal influence.

Let's get the ball rolling,

Bush

They seem to be generally despised despite being huge in the mid 90s, I always found them harmless and with some good tunes but because they deemed to be Nirvana lite elements of the press hated them, that's my take on it anyway. Plus the UK press hate bands that break the US first and skip the UK?

I think they were held in low regard because they were and are dog shit.

but..

To date, Bush has sold nearly 25 million albums worldwide as one of the best selling rock acts of the 1990s, with Sixteen Stone reaching an astounding seven times platinum status in America alone. The album spawned a whopping five singles, no easy feat for a band making its recorded debut.

Please tell me you're not equating sales with quality of output?

I'm not equating anything really, well kinda-ish, I'm just giving stats for a band that have album sales that many can only dream of, are they more hated than liked? Who knows?

Bush are a strange one in that they were a British band that were huge in America but I think barely made a ripple on this side of the Atlantic. Which makes their appeal harder for us to understand.

I honestly have never heard of them but we all know Americans aren't renown for their taste in anything.

Right place right time. Having Jimmy Iovine at Interscope definitely helped the push in the states as he was quite the bulldog for his acts when they started to draw money.

What is the point of this?
Selling bucket loads is delightful but it doesn't mean anything when it comes to quality.
Bush were one of those built for alt radio type things with what was deemed to be a handsome frontman.
The rest of the band could run into my house singing their songs and after the initial WTF I'd have to ask who they are and what are the singing.
It's not a case of universal hatred at all for me, it's more a case of I couldn't give a flying fuck.
I don't even know why I'm taking part in this discussion!

Quote from: Squigs on February 02, 2025, 09:09:43 PMGhost have been polarizing since their inception. People who bought the Elizabeth 7" setting fire to it when the album came out, for God knows what reason.

I still laugh thinking about the fella that put the video of him pissing on that 7" on YouTube

Crazy to think they played Hell's Pleasure considering where they are now.

Headlined the Sunday of the first Live Evil in 2010 too. Angel Witch headlined the other night, for context.

U2 are another one that get shat on quite a bit, not sure is it musical or for their politics or both?

Their music has been a form of particularly dull elevator music for thirty years. Might be that?

Bono is one of the biggest twonks to ever draw breath. Their music is aural milquetoast.
