Bands that are hated or devisive and the reasoning?

Let's get the ball rolling,

Bush

They seem to be generally despised despite being huge in the mid 90s, I always found them harmless and with some good tunes but because they deemed to be Nirvana lite elements of the press hated them, that's my take on it anyway. Plus the UK press hate bands that break the US first and skip the UK?

Ah they deserved it. Weak as piss and the definition of coat tailers. Gavin clearly from a well to do background and yeah it's not very grunge is it. Might find them fun if there was a bit of self awareness but there wasn't and the tunes weren't that great. I also read a live review where he stormed off stage cos a t shirt was thrown up and grazed him.

Finally I spoke to the singer from Cyclefly after a a headline gig in Dublin- they just did some shows with Bush  - I asked him about them and he described Rosdale as a "fanny". This is the guy from Cyclefly .

Interesting view, keep em coming!!  :abbath:

Ghost are hated purely on the basis that they became big, if they stayed at the popularity of say, a Sumerlands or Uncle Acid type band, they'd be kvlt heroes.

For all the 'not metal' arguments, I'd also make a bold claim that they're arguably the only mainstream heavy metal band since pre-Black Album to get big without incorporating some form of alternative, grunge, hardcore or nu-metal element.

As a general rule I hate bands that wear masks, what's the fucking point?

Don't be getting carried away making things black and white   Plenty of folk don't like Ghost simply because they make a fairly particular type of poppy goth-rock that was never going to appeal to all metal heads, even if they had stayed at the same underground level of popularity as Sumerlands (a band so good, incidentally, I would definitely still be into them if they became huge).

I'm talking about the general vitriol rather than people just not liking them, other bands around the time doing similar shtick's got/get nowhere near as much hate. But, I suppose when yer man's playing arenas he probably doesn't give a shite either way.

Ya, I get you. Still not sure, feels to me that a lot of the Ghost hatred was more about Ghost fans not "paying their dues" to the bands Ghost were emulating. A bit like a lot of The Darkness fans previously, or what I imagine it must be like to talk to a Greta van Fleet fan who's telling you they don't really like Led Zeppelin

I think a lot of it has to do with them being completely fake in an era that championed authenticity. Cobain sang about rage and pain because he really felt that way. Bush did it because they figured that was what was popular.

Nickleback were always quite the punching bag but I'm not sure why?

I've only ever heard whatever songs were on the radio at the time about 20 years ago and I wouldn't describe them as awful, yet it seems like it's cool to hate them. I don't know anything about them, is yer man a twat or something?

The UK press hated Rossdale as he was a star fucker(literally according to Pete Burns) hanger on in the 80s on the blag into industry parties, so when he suddenly became Mr Alt Rock in the states it was quite the surprise.
Think all the Kerrang journos liked the rest of the band, but Gavin was always a posh cunt, but when Universal are buying ads they had to genuflect.

Always hated them myself, generic as fuck.

They're legit awful music wise but they do come across as sound Canadian lads to be fair. The doc on Netflix was pretty good.

I always put a lot of this seemingly random vitriol towards bands down to the masses who don't have discerning taste in music in any way trying to show that they can sniff out shit bands but basically just mindlessly following the same herd mentality that they always do. They probably even have an opinion (that someone else gave them) about Blur vs Oasis as though it is of some importance. I just take out my axe ov elitism, turn up Razorblade Suitcase on my boombox and get a'head choppin!

Ghost have been polarizing since their inception. People who bought the Elizabeth 7" setting fire to it when the album came out, for God knows what reason.

Especially when the ones they had at Roadburn go for daft money.

Lee Dorian was a smart lad getting in on the ground floor there. And the first album is fucking savage.

Can totally see why some folks hate them but they're not a metal band and never feckin were.
