Any of you lads have any advice.

I bought an Orange Rocker 32 second hand from Musicmaker a couple of months ago. It's a 30 watt tube amp and I've noticed the last while that I'm getting some sudden signal/volume drops.

It's not a cable/guitar issue because when I take the guitar cable out of the amp I can hear the hum from the amp dropping.

Any ideas what this could be?

It's my first tube amp, would the tubes maybe need to be changed or something else?

Thanks lads.

Just an FYI  a regular expression pedal won't work with the Line 6. I got a Moog one when I ordered mine and then realised it won't work with it when it arrived. Bit of a pain as the EXP pedal with the line 6 is a powerful combination. They have their own one and I think Mission Engineering do one for working with the line 6 stuff too. I plan on getting a TC midi mouse to go with my M5 so I can switch between patches easier and get more use out of it.

Were you using a regular patch cable or a TRS one out of curiosity? I'll be very annoyed if my cheapo Exp pedal doesn't work!

Not sure if that's aimed at me or not

How you think it could possibly be anyone other than you.....

That's a new one for me. I'd have thought that if the problem was with the tubes, it would be a constant loss of power in the signal rather than drops. Any kind of warranty from MusicMaker on second hand gear?

Could be a loose connection on the input jack or a dodgy volume pot rather than tubes.  Hazarding a guess as I had a similar issue with a much shittier combo amp.  Would best off drop it into someone rather than have a go yourself though.

Thanks lads, I'll give Musicmaker an email and see if they can take a look at it, I think they have a repairs section in there anyway.

Yesterday after I posted about the volume/signal drop I tried turning the amp to full power (I usually use half power at home) and it started making this really loud noise.

Tried it today, played fine for about 5 mins then it started making the noise again.

Thats sounds like a tube on the way out. First port of call would be changing the tubes and see how you get on. A quick test is to use a plastic pen to lightly tap the tubes when the amp is on. If one of them makes a weird noise then it's probably microphonic and needs changing. It's not a very definitive test though so even without showing anything it could still be the tubes.

Emphyrio, yeah I tried both. Did some reading after and line 6 just do their EXP pedals differently so you need one to their specs.

It arrived this morning, and yes, you were quite correct. The first half of the sweep seems to work ok but that's useless for a whammy effect. I'll probably use it as a volume pedal. Maybe. Haven't really felt the need for one of them up til now.

Yeah i was having the same thing. kinda worked a bit and then would stick on a setting or jump to full/off. i was pretty disappointed. I feel an exp pedal and a midi switcher would open up the uses of the M5 dramatically.

In other news, I've somehow been talked into buying a strymon timelive. Mate of mine is selling one and dropped it off for me to try. He knew well what he was doing!

The cute hoor!

Am quite disappointed the Exp pedal didn't work out. Gonna keep an eye out for a second hand Super Shifter or even the Behringer equivalent. I reckon it's only the whammy function I need and don't want a big fuck off exp pedal taking up a loada space.

i picked up a super shifter on adverts a year or 2 ago. Great pedal. Does LOADS of different stuff. I keep coming back to it.

Ive been back and forth to Kor/Jpn a lot in the last few months and have discovered some excellent music malls / shops for all sorts of new and used gear there. The selection of used pedals on display in countless shops in Tokyo is really mindboggling, plus you can get even the used stuff tax free as a tourist which is nice.... Seoul has what (Im told) is the largest music gear mall in Asia... 4 floors of shops rammed to the ceiling (literally) with gear, completely overwhelming.

I picked up a nice Tech21 SansAmp bass DI pedal, a used dbx160A for a song, an MXL Genesis FET mic and a used AKG 4040 mic... all great value. Lots of stuff (especially guitars) are ridiculously overpriced there though... but great value as you'd expect for many things made in china/japan etc. Highly recommended for anyone heading out there...

Anyone on here ever run an Orange TH30?

It is piquing my interest as a nice big boy amp that I could finally afford, but I've yet to actually play through one. Demos seem nice, but you never really know with amps til you actually take them for a spin, I find
