I've never seen what he's like in real life or interview so only have the music to go on so far. I heard they all bonded over poetry in music school though, so I can speculate about what kind of pretentious scenester/hipster types they might be, just from remembering the exact same types floating around the local indie scene in the 2000s.

I still like his vocals. Maybe it's because I've been gone from Ireland for 9yrs, but I'm loving hearing such a prominent Irish-sounding voice being successful. Also any actual band with instruments getting mainstream recognition is exciting these days. It does seem like there's a huge swell happening back towards that kind of music, especially with punk-leaning stuff. It'd be nice to have a prominent alternative to the mainstream again instead of manufactured crap all the way down...

I listened to that track there. If there was any doubt in my mind before, that cured me of it. Just not for me, sorry.

The video in that article sounds like poor man's Versatile. Those cunts got Coolio to Ringsend before he carked it.

Jaysus lads this is getting an awful pasting isn't it. I'll nearly have to throw it on and see well hear

So I tried that song that was recommended it wasn't so bad. I wouldn't go mad for it but I don't see the big deal with the vocals or any of it really

OK lads we'll beg to differ here. I really like them and Dogrel is a great punk record. The sound was been refined over the years but Skinty Fia is brilliant.
My son who is a big Maiden, Priest, Megadeth fan is into them too as are some of his friends in school,  I think the fact that these guys are mostly in their 20s is great for him as most metal bands he listens to are old lads.
It sure beats the he'll out of the other pop music out there.

Didn't even know it was a punk type thing. I only listened to the one with the Irish name and I thought it sounded like something Radiohead would be up to (except in English). Don't see what's so divisive about the j lad having a bit of an accent but I've never read or heard anything about them before

I really like that Skinty Fia album. New song is good too.

I kinda like hearing those Irish accents.

Their shtick is a bit grating alright. But maybe just getting old.

If you want to hear their punkier, slightly heavier stuff try the song Hurricane Laughter. Their early big 'hit' Boys in the Better Land is also a really cool song, albeit on the poppier side of rock. Both from their first album Dogrel.

That headline quote is the utterings of a total cunt.

Just had a read through that. Fontaine's trajectory reminds me of Kings of Leon a little bit in that they started off scrappy and then got bigger and more melodic. KoL of course eventually just went full utterly bland Coldplay. Going by the interview's claim of Fontaine's trying to write music for stadiums on this one, it does make me worry they'll go the same way...

Also, that new nu-metal influenced look they've got is utterly fucking ridiculous.

They just bang of insincerity all round to me. I have no issue with the accent in any case.

There's no shortage of decent post-punk revival stuff out there so I'd have no real interest in these lads when I could just listen to, say, Protomartyr instead.
Re the accent...English and Irish parents, lived in Skerries...I'd imagine it's very much put on. It's fairly shameless working class appropriation but it's hardly anything new...Rubberbandits have been doing it for years and those cringey spas Kneecap are milking it for all it's worth.

I like the new song, it's a bit fucking weird. I'd say if anything they will explore more boundaries with their music in the new album and beyond.
Whatever they say about nu metal or sing along there isn't a bit of the going on in this.
