I know this wasn't aimed at me but these lads are not only lethal but the Bandcamp genre tag is actually "bad vibes"

Savage album I have had on a ton lately.  Give it a few songs, it does one particular thing but still doesn't entirely give the game away until you are a bit into the album.

I always found it interesting how Marc Bolan wrote these songs that were generally just one or two riffs repeated and the songs don't get boring. Monolith and Mambo Sun are two of my favorites on this album.

Very underrated influence on hard rock and metal imo.

Yeah for sure. Just listen to that main riff from Jupiter Liar. The tone of his guitar on that song is great, really raw and gritty. And again it's just 2 chords played over and over.

I just don't have time for shit music and I dont care about bands who run on"vibes" (apart from bad ones, obviously) . What I think doesn't matter anyway in the grand scheme of things, tis just my experience of them.

Incidentally,  it was them opening for Katie Kim.

Absolutely! I just find it good craic.

No. BAD VIBES ONLY. But Plainfield. Absolute genius, not for the easily offended.

Finally gave the new BOC a lash. First impression, I was underwhelemed by the first few tracks but it clicked for me from about "Memory Death" on. I imagine a few more listens and it'll fully click.

Swans: The Burning World

Utterly atypical Swans album, might be the perfect Swans album as a result.

Sold on the first proper full listen here but can already see tons in it to keep me digging back in.  Savage stuff.

Same impression here. "There's eating and drinking in it anyway!" as I said in a chat with some fellow devoted branch davidians.

I only recently gave BoC the time of day, and regretted not doing that sooner. Music Has the Right to Children has been on very heavy rotation for the last few weeks. So I went and pre-ordered Inferno at the earliest opportunity. It hasn't quite worked its way under my skin like Music.. but it's a much more dense affair and I'll have to dedicate a bit more time to it.

Bicep's first album is getting a fair bit of play as well.

Looking for a physical version of DJ Shadow - Entroducing without much luck, but I'm hoping for a 30th(!!!) anniversary reissue in September.

There was a reissue of Endtroducing in 2024. Should be handy enough to find.

In London for work tonight and rather than face a team night out I took a chance on a small pub gig from a band I've never heard of... absolutely glad I did as they were brilliant! Well worth checking out if you like post-punk, Krautrock kind of stuff.

Nice one!!

Mansun - Attack of the Grey Lantern

This thread reminded me of Mansun who I loved when I was 18. It still sounds great unlike the lad rock shite that was more popular at the time.

Cool band name and your description ticks the boxes so I'll give it a go. Cheers.

Charles Mingus - Black Saint and the Sinner Lady

I'd never heard this one before. Holy fuck it was great. Some of the best jazz composition I've ever heard, really unique, original, and kind of twisted and dark. Jumps straight up to one of my favourite jazz albums.

Couple of Miles too while I was in the mood - Jack Johnson and In a Silent Way. Both amazing

John Coltrane - Blue Trane and A Love Supreme. Again, both amazing.

Black Saint is savage. Only know that and Ah Um but both are unreal.

Miles is generally great. So many bangers and a lot with Coltrane on them as well. Only really listen to Giant Steps, A Love Supreme and Favourite Things by Coltrane solo. Duke and Coltrane is class as is Coltrane and Hartman but he's on so many amazing albums.

Not a jazz fan at all but Get Up On It had its moments, listened to that a few years back. I watched the Birth Of The Cool documentary at the weekend, still not a fan of his music but the doc itself was interesting.
