I finished Frankenstein there yesterday. Fairly impressive a 20 year old conjured this together. I didn't find it overly engaging, yet it is very well written. Perhaps dated in the way it's written. I was expecting it to be a bit more about the monster really. Still decent though

Did Macbeth for the leaving  cert and it still holds up today lol. No s great play loved it then too. Hamlet is fantastic too.
Im reading Bewilderment by Richard Powers.

Read Frankenstein last year I think . Really enjoyed it. Was surprised some of it was set in Ireland.

I don't think I've read Hamlet and I really must.

Read Frankenstein many years ago and remember very little, but I remember thinking it was deadly. Might have to revisit that.

Read Frankenstein, Dracula and Jeckyll & Hyde in short order. Classics all.

Hamlet is the only one that compares to Macbeth for me (I mean, they're all good out of the ones I've read, but those two are the best). I'm currently reading King Lear for the first time though and so far it's also really good.

It's astonishing just how many phrases, idioms and words come from Shakespeare, truly astonishing.

Yes absolutely. Timeless

Very cool book that's described as the Lord of the flies meets The Thing and it didn't disappoint!
Nice and fast paced.

I just read The Deep by him. Fairly shlocky oul' shite but entertaining to a point. Like that, it was fairly fast paced but the endless flashbacks and dream sequences killed it a bit.

Fairly ripped off a lot of Stephen King (The Stand, It), Alien, Event Horizon, The Abyss, The Thing, Sphere, Solaris, Hellraiser with a bit of body/cosmic horror thrown in for the craic.

Passed the time in a switch your brain off way, but I doubt I'd bother with anything else of his.

King Lear is quality. Read it last year for the first time since my early 20s. Also watched this adaptation:

And Kurosawa's Ran too  :abbath:  :abbath:

Ran is mighty. I think the Richard Harris film My Kingdom is loosy based on Lear as well.

The Troop is miles better than The Deep. The premise is formulaic enough but it's well-written. I read The Deep right after flying through The Troop and couldn't believe it was the same author. Not sure if I even finished reading the fucking thing.

Yeah, The Troop was much better than The Deep.
I'm halfway through one called Exquisite Corpse by Poppy Brite. It's quite messed up.

Exquisite Corpse is a great, fucked up book. I have one of his short story collections, Wormwood. Must give it a go.

Currently reading Bird Box by Josh Malerman.

I would recommend reading Lost Souls by him too. Pretty unique take on vampires. I have another one by him called Liquor which I've yet to read. He completely changed styles after a few horror books. This one is meant to be more dark comedy I think.

I have Between Two Fires lined up next. This has one of the coolest premises I've heard of in a while. Medieval horror with a religious slant. Looking forward to it.

Finally got around to reading Brave New World. I'm about half way through it. It isn't as interesting as I thought it would be now. Still, good so far. Maybe I was expecting something different
