Los Domingos, Spanish film, set in present day, about a teenager who feels the call to become a nun. Very nicely made, questioning yet respectful.

Pumpkinhead

Starting off the Halloween season more or less now. I already watched The Evil Dead, but I talked about it last year a decent bit. Still an absolute classic.

Pumpkinhead has always been one of those films I want to like more than I actually do. It's solid and enjoyable, but could have been great. Definitely has a great Autumnal feel about it though, good mood setter.

L'Histoire de Souleymane/Souleymane's Story (2024)

Gut- and heart-wrenching stuff, powerfully projects the viewer into the human experience behind so many immigrants' daily lives.

Quote from: Carnage on September 27, 2026, 09:47:08 PMI just watched that new Unabomber film there, not great TBH. Framed as the psychological experiments he was part of in college being the trigger that sent him on his path. Russell Crowe phoning it in as the head of the experiments and Shailene Woodley in yet another wooden performance as the FBI analyst who pins Kaczynski as the bomber. I wouldn't bother, watch the series with Sam Worthington and Paul Bettany instead.

Yep, not up to much at all.

Saw Digger tonight - new Tom Cruise film, went in with no prior knowledge, I thought it was brilliant but seems to be receiving a very mixed response, well worth watching.

I'd say the Ellison's are probably boosting the online rage towards it so they can have more to write off while merging Warners & Paramount.

Looking forward to it as I always enjoy when Cruise goes against type.

I saw the trailer for Digger and thought it looked like absolute bollocks. Maybe I'll give it a gander if it gets to Netflix.

Near Dark

The next on the Halloween list. An absolute classic across the board. Kind of wish Bill Paxton had gotten his own spinoff movie playing Severen. It also tied in really well with my goth listening phase.

Got around to watching The Bone Temple, still didn't sort any of the plot holes for me that 28 Years Later brought in, but I found it much better overall

Watched Tony, the Anthony Bourdain film, last night.

Very well made and a nice pleasant watch, but not as interesting as the man himself.

Onto that Camp Miasa yoke tonight.

Spider-Man 3, first time seeing it. A solid close-out to a solid trilogy imo!

Weird coincidence, rewatched it myself yesterday afternoon!

Apparently there's a TV show of it coming, A24 are involved

Which has me terrified of them ruining it as it'll be all back stories and needle drops.

But on the plus side there's going to a a 4k restoration of the original next year. Same team that did The Hitcher which looks fucking incredible.

A TV show of it sounds terrifying alright. Once you recognize the amount of padding that goes into a weak TV show it's hard to unsee.

I watched The Purge: Election Year last night and I was thinking it would make a great TV show if each season was just a purge for that year. But then immediately thought they'd ruin it by padding the shit out of it with backstory and flashbacks. Who the fuck cares about the history of someone's marital problems over an entire season, just show us cool gangs, crazy events and moments etc. There's enough dynamism within that to have the quiet and loud moments without all the boring shit (by which I mean how it's done in a weak TV show). Apparently there is a TV show of it but I haven't watched it.

Finally got around to watching Saipan. Coogan does a great Mick McCarthy to ba fair and yer man Éanna Hardwicke is  brilliant I thought.
