Grabbed IMAX ticket to see The Odyssey tomorrow. All today's were booked up, and I was only able to get in tomorrow since I'll be going on my own. Fairly impressive sign in itself, given that it's been out two weeks already.

I went in to watch The Odyssey without reading anything about it other than seeing some stuff on twitter about woke casting but it made no difference to what I thought of the film itself. I just thought the events on each island felt a bit rushed but there was indeed a lot to fit in and even 3 hours ish couldn't flesh it all out. I brought the young lads to it and they didn't get bored at all, which is a fair achievement. Read some reviews after watching it and thought they were scathing for the sake of being scathing. When I mentioned the casting not being great I didn't mean at all about the supposed woke thing, I just meant that none of the performances were particularly involving but again there was no standout awful performance either.

I did laugh a bit going through Rotten Tomatoes reviews in that every single unverified reviewer gave it a terrible going over but every verified reviewer was gushing in praise. Yet the tomatometer was like 99 percent or something. I'd call it a 3 out of 5 but an enjoyable 3 out of 5. As mentioned above, I was also after a Jason and The Argonauts style romp, which it fairly was, so no real complaints.

I think Nolan did a great job with this. For a long film it was excellently paced. Its a movie I would definitely revisit. I'm actually glad this wasn't turned into another franchise.

I thought it was a bit short, which is odd to say about a 3 hour film but some more time to flesh out the characters would have been cool and some more time on each island would have been welcome too.

I didn't see it in IMAX either and by all accounts it's the far better experience.

The criticism of it is definitely overplayed, but I guess that's the sort of shit you get these days for having someone black play a part or the trans lad but all that's only noise and should be completely ignored, much like the Rings of Power hullabaloo over similar casting choices which had no bearing on the series being good

So here's the guardian's response to the bad review linked earlier and it's as retarded as one would expect from such an outlet.

People bang on about maga retardation and it's right and fair but by god do the left give them a fantastic run for their money.

Joyce Carol Oates is a novelist and sort of public intellectual. I haven't read the article, so maybe the Guardian got their own oar in too, but Oates doesn't write for them, so whatever is reported of her, is just her. Not to take away from the Guardian being an all too often unbearable news source, which it absolutely is. Still good investigations every now and then though.

I just hate the way even watching a bloody film has to be politicised now. Pure shite from the maga because of the colour of an actor in it etc and pure shite there from the other side saying it's maga language to say the film is bad. Awful from all involved.

Sometimes The Guardian is grand like I do read things in it but that's just silly silly altogether
