Watched Sicario last week for the first time and was underwhelmed.

3 good scenes - when they leave Mexico after kidnapping yer man, when they enter the tunnel and when he gets into the cartel lads house at the dinner table. The rest was just yer wan figuring out that she was only there for legal shite. Feels like they were trying a bait and switch on the watcher that she was the main protagonist but GUESS WHAT the other guy was all along, which was very obvious from the start.

What am I missing here?

It's a good movie, but lads that say "pure cinema" will swear it's genre defining.
He's Quebecois Michael Mann with former IDF technical advisors.

I watched The Sheep Detectives with my niblings and it was harmless, good oul' craic. Like putting the Peter Rabbit vibe onto a murder mystery, but minus James fucking Corden.

Saw a couple of cinema films recently:

Backrooms

I really enjoyed this. Liminal space: the movie. I loved the whole setup and the world they were in, you could make endless movies out of that place (they might just if some major property buys the rights). The best parts were when they were simply exploring the space, plus the handheld camera moments.
*Mild spoiler* Slightly underwhelmed by the main creature.


Jackass: Best and Last

Been watching this since it first aired in 2000 so I owed it to the boys for one last go around. Honestly there was no point in this film being released. It's more of a greatest hits of past clips, with a few new stunts thrown in, so if you're a fan you likely already seen about 60% of the film before. Knoxville also noticeably stays back from anything too serious after that bull ended his career in the last movie. The new stuff is decent, but they also seem a little out of ideas. It was still a fun 90mins though and I don't begrudge them their victory lap, but def the worst movie of the five and the end of their era.

Watched The Odyssey last night. Thought the pacing was a bit off and didn't think much of the cast but overall I enjoyed it.

Just watched it tonight. I said near the beginning that some scenes made me think of Boards of Canada, and then the credits roll to a track from the new album 

I had the exact same thought! Pretty much Boards of Canada: The Film. Having been listening to Inferno pretty regularly for weeks, it was just the perfect accompaniment.

Nice little indie film about a poet finding the beauty in mundane everyday life. Adam Driver's good in it. Very slow and contemplative.
