Fun story - I was given a Bialetti 6-cup pot as a Christmas present when I was 18. I'd never used one before but I read the instructions twice. Lobbed in a lash of finely ground Segafredo Zanetti - remember that? Filled the reservoir. Put it on the stove. Did as per the instructions. Poured it into a mug.

"6 cup?" I thought - I barely got a Liverpool mug's worth out of it. "Must've done something wrong".

Drank my cup of coffee. About 10 minutes later my heart and head were pounding like a double-kick then I got a serious nose bleed. I thought I was having a stroke.

Tried the Bialetti a few more times but rarely got more than a cuppa out of it.

A week later told my buddy who'd given me the gift that I was experiencing an issue with it - "Yeah. 6-cup means it makes six strong espressos, yeh fuckin' tit!"

I use my Bialetti 6 cup in the mornings with one tablespoon of Medium Roast coffee, poured out into one cup and off I go. Thats the only coffee of the day for me though. I had a 9 cup before that I used to decant into a flask and bring to the office back when going to the office was a thing. I'd make Americanos with half coffee, half hot water during the day from it.

Other than that Lavazza Intenso Coffee for a quick instant cup sometimes.

Or McDonalds if I'm in town.

I'm decidedly low rent beside your dedication to the art

Have any of you ever tried the coffee processed (Kopi luwak) from Civet cats poop?

No. I read about it back in the day when it was big news. Definitely a case of the emperor's new clothes. It's like sour craft beer (for the most part) - trendy lads in skinny pants who arrived at the pub on Penny Farthings saying shite like "Definitely agree with you there, Timpiste, funk off of this watermelon gose from New Mexico is a serious statement".

If you were handed a beer that smelled that way ten years ago, your serious statement would be "Here! This beer is gone bad. When did you clean the lines last?"

Yeah... I should really have put my focus into doing something more and advancing my career or something. Too late now. Kettle on.

I remember Brian at Silverskin had one that was pooped one time, I feel like it was elephants though.

Funny what you say above about sour drinkers is often said to me about 3FE etc!

A tip for those who don't have the financial resources to purchase the very expensive Kopi Luwac,
Centra instant coffee tastes just like a steaming cup of cats shite.
Alternatively, slip some lightly roasted coffee beans into your own cats food bowl and wait.
As an added treat, capture a lactating cat and gently squeeze her teats into your cup of Centra coffee, it really adds to that delightfully disgusting aftertaste beloved of coffee snobs and arseholes the world over.

Someone's on Karpackie...

Really? I guess I could see that happening.

Coffee wankers aren't as bad as beer wankers.

Yet.

Given my username - I'm a bit of a beer wanker (not to the level of some cunts) but sours are something that I can't say I like or see the point of - for the most part. I've never been in a coffee shop and had to tolerate some of the fuckology that goes along with beer (and wine) though! I've never seen anyone loudly gargle coffee - for example.

I've had Stone Valley when the lads in my daily haunt here in Cork, Filter, have put it on as their batch but never bought a bag of it, no. I can't remember the last time that I had it. I think my buddy did some artwork for them a while back. Any recommendation?

Ordered two new ones from Cloud Picker last Friday which sound interesting;

San Francisco | Costa Rica ---- Mango | Orange Liqueur | Golden Raisin
Chirinos | Peru ---- Cocoa | Cherry | Amaretto

From 3FE currently the Toño from Costa Rica is very good. As is Los Mangos but I think that's done with now.

I should also have mentioned to anyone who wants a very good bag of coffee tasting coffee then 3FE's Momentum is fairly bulletproof.

Yeah maybe an acquired taste, if your ever over Brussels way - my favourite brewery tour is the Cantillon one, I'd highly recommend if you have not already!

@StoutAndAle...
If you're around Cork City Centre, then pop into Café Torino for one of their Guilliano coffees.

Remembered to drop in to this place on a morning walk last week. Good call. Just had a regular coffee but it was nice. It's a nice little place too. He didn't have anything else to sell, he was just open, so my three quid is not gonna keep him afloat.

I dunno how many of you lads are actually coffee heads and into the accoutrement but I got this just before Easter.

https://www.moccamaster.eu/webshop/brewers_with_uk_plug/kbg_select_-_uk/

After a week of using it, I can safely say it is the best percolator I have ever owned or drank coffee from. If any of your are in the market for this type of machine, I would not hesitate. And you can buy it directly from the manufacturer thus saving about 50 quid.

Finally - I got around to trying a few coffees from Imbibe - some seriously high quality stuff. Their house blend - Kaleidoscope - is a great all day coffee. The current Columbian - El Puente - is excellent too.

Imbibe have an interesting business model as well. They give 1% of turnover from all coffee sales is donated to Women's Aid in Ireland, 1% back to staff and 1% to educational projects in coffee producing countries.

Have to disagree with you there man. I've been to one of the small farms in Sumatra and I can tell you that it is quite literally "good shit". If you ever get a chance to taste it, you should definitely try and seperate the product from its retail price and whatever hipster analogy you might associate with it.

From what I remember, you could buy a box of coffee beans straight from the source for about €6. That very same box would be imported into the west for about €80, or probably more. I remember the mark-up being insane.

Would I pay €30 for a cup though? Fuck no. It's fucking coffee. I don't think any coffee is worth €30 a cup unless it's got a hape of drugs in it. And I mean a hape.
