Bustle seldom hits the heights of NOLA, but there are some very good songs on it.

I think that was my introduction to them. I'd been aware of NOLA but hadn't heard it, it was a track from II on  a Terrorizer or Metal Hammer that put me onto them, Beautifully Depressed I think. 2 or 3 good songs on that one but poor overall and his voice is shocking.

Hexecuter - Where Spirit Withers In Its Flesh
Sign of the Jackal - Heavy Metal Survivors
Hexenbrett - Dritte Beschworung: Dem Teufel Eine Tochter
Witching Altar / Bottomless - Graveyard Thunder
Summoner - Day of Doom Live
Kreator - Coma of Souls
Ghost - Skeleta
Queen - Sheer Heart Attack

Anthrax - Worship Music

As far as comeback albums go it's very solid. Looking it up I never realised how many credits Dan Nelson has on it, then they tried to erase them from their history

Some heavy hitters out these past few days..

Megadeth - Rust In Peace 9.5/10
"Long hair, tight jeans, tons of chicks and Speed Metal at it's finest, Rust In Peace, baby!"
 - D.Mustaine (2004).

Suffocation - Pierced From Within 9/10
Setting the standard for Brutal (not brootal  >:( ) Death Metal all the way back in '95, this thing is still as crushing as it is technically imperious.

Satyricon - Dark Medieval Times 8.5/10
1993 and two young Norwegian bards stake their claim on the nascent Black Metal scene with this lo-fi and chilling paean to times long gone.

Nile - Annihilation of the Wicked 8/10
Sandblasting the face of myself with this while watching the snooker. Beats listening to Dennis Taylor.

Dream Theater - Parasomnia 7.5/10
Always in the like, not love, category yet I've bought every DT album since Images and Words. This new one is ,as expected, all the better for having Portnoy back on board. Some of the lyrics are lacking a certain finesse and cohesion here for me though.

Midnight - Let There Be Witchery 7.5/10
After all those big bruisers above a spin of Midnight's punk infused Venom-humping-Hellhammer Metal goes down like a swift tray of shots between rounds.

Wearing jeans and leather, not crackerjack clothes

That MH CD track was my first introduction to Down as well. I bought II after that, which I thought was OK.

It's true that the live album they did isn't great which is a shame because I've always thought they were a fantastic live band that didn't seem to translate their onstage vibe to record. Saw them at festivals a couple of times in the early 2010s and they were awesome, especially the first time, that was a 10/10 performance and all their material sounded way better live. There's a 90s performance on Youtube somewhere which is brilliant as well.

Yeah that 95 show is fucking savage. I only saw it recently.

Furis Ignis - Decapitate the Aging  World

Kaamos - s/t
Kaamos - Lucifer rising

What a great band these lads were. Balls to the wall no gimmick occult Death Metal. Must try track down the LPs.

Riot - Narita
Secrets of the Moon - Antithesis
Blackevil - Praise the Communion Fire for the Unhallowed Sacrament
Freeways - Dark Sky Sanctuary
Firmament - We Don't Rise, We Just Fall
Usurper - Threshold of the Usurper
Necromaniac - Sciomancy, Malediction & Rites Abominable
MegatonSword - Blood Hails Steel

Suffocation at their best. Effigy is good, but Pierced is an absolute beast of an album.

NP Devin Townsend - Ocean Machine: Biomech

Exploring Devin Townsend after being knocked out by SYL's City recently. Brilliant album. Don't know how this passed me by. I would have been 17 when this was released and would have loved it. I was probably listening to Coal Chamber.

OM and City are class and great counterparts to each other.  If you like those go straight for Terria next, then check out anything else from that era in any order, up to around 2007.  Terria is untouchable.

I'd go a bit further up to the first four DTP albums, after that he settled a bit more into a formula and stuck to it. Still think most of the stuff from the last ten years or so is great, but the first half of his career is on another level

Definitely I'd be going with Terria next, or Accelerated Evolution

David Lee Roth:Eat 'Em & Smile
Def Leppard:Hysteria
Cancer:Dead Shall Rise
Fight:War Of Words

Oh yeah I love those too, but I think Epicloud is the drop off for me, everything from there back including demos, b-sides etc is great and has a very particular buzz off it he never really touched again.
