Varathron - His Majesty At The Swamp

I'm on a top tier, champions league night of doom. Savage band. Flawless career. Never put a foot wrong in my opinion.

I thought the last album went on a bit, even by their standards but aside from that, I couldn't disagree. Even the rehearsal disc in that boxset is mighty.

Katatonia -Dance of December Souls.
Death -Symbolic.
Emperor -IX Equilibrium.
Bathory -Blood Fire Death.
Power Trip -Live in Seattle.

Coltre - To Watch With Hands... To Touch with Eyes
Midnight Force - Severan
Sanhedrin - Heat Lightning
Opeth - Blackwater Park
High Command - Eclipse of the Dual Moons

A Murderous Circus!

Assassin - The Upcoming Terror 9/10
The brutish, in your face debut from Assassin can go toe to toe with most of their German thrash compatriot's releases. Came out the same year as the Holy Terror debut and that's a good reference point for this one, curiously, there's even a song called Holy Terror here.

Hypnosia - Extreme Hatred 8.5/10
Back in 2000 this Swedish trio plagiarized the fuck out of early Kreator on their one and only album and a damn fine job they did too. Nods to Sadus here as well but really if you bemoan the family friendly fare that Mille and Co. are pedalling today then this is the album for you.

Helloween - Helloween 8/10
Not an album I took to straight away but going back to it now the songs are still stuck in my head and there's no  denying the infectious levels of showmanship on display here. Sold!

Onslaught - Power From Hell 7.5/10
All the way back to 1985 for this rough and ready punk-thrash debut that I've finally updated to vinyl. Latter day Onslaught largely leaves me cold but this is always a satisfyingly primitive listen.

Angel Sword - World Fighter 7/10
Third album from the Finns chock full of uptempo earworms,..a quintessential Dying Victims band insofar as they're  grand but pretty harmless stuff overall, I like the bit of grit in the singer's voice, reminds me of Rob from Dreamsfear. 32mins running time .Anyone else noticing how short a lot of these albums are lately ,like they're of that generation where they can't get much past half an hour without needing to go update their socials?. Or they are right on point and know that's the way forward these days.

Evil Angel - Unholy Evil Metal 6.5/10
Another short one here too (33mins) but an altogether uglier, nastier affair than their fellow Finns above, nine short, sharp bullets of hellish Black Thrash that provide a good kick up the Bishop Brennan's.
It loses a lot of its oomph when the pace drops though, this type of stuff is best served up with no respite.

Monster Magnet - Dopes to Infinity
Clutch - Psychic Warfare
Electric Wizard - Dopethrone

On a stoner rock buzz after discovering Clutch. Haven't listened to the 2 Dope albums in years. Great stuff to blast with the sun shining.

Might well be that long ago!
But it is a figure of speech for 'quite a while ago'
