I dunno man, like trying to be apolitical when ICE are murdering people on the streets is fucked, it's like cunts saying look let's not talk about bloody Sunday because both sides are lurks and we should just bang our heads.

I actually do get the sentiment here but it would have to apply to everything then ie no point being apolitical when x y or z is happening and then inevitably we all end up where we are now.

Every cause is just from the right perspective.

In I way I agree with Hetfield but I also think he could have maybe made the same point a lot better by not saying anything at all. The sponsors would probably be happy and all.

I was at the chat pile gig and someone let off the oul free Palestine thing and I genuinely thought there was no need for that at all it was like calling the band out for their politics when they hadn't said a word about anything like that at all and I was going to let out the shout and say fuck off with all that but then I realised that shouting it down would be either agreeing or disagreeing with any of it and all I really wanted was the absolutely devastating kick in during Dallas Beltway

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Fuckin joke world.

Except they had:
QuoteAnd there's no misunderstanding the visual horror behind the growls of Shame, the album's nearest successor to Why?: "In their parents arms, the kids were falling apart/ Broken tiny bodies, holding tiny still hearts," Raygun murmurs over waterfalls of distortion. It is, of course, about Gaza. "But I want it to apply to all wars. It could apply to Vietnam and America. All war is terrible. But yeah, at the time I wrote that, I'm seeing the guy get run over by a fucking tank."

By contrast, let's not forget formerly anti-war (before that stance risked losing fans) Hetfield's weak as fuck statement when their music was being used as part of torture procedures in Guantanamo:
QuoteWe've got nothing to do with this and we're trying to be as apolitical as possible, 'cause I think politics and music, at least for us, don't mix. It separates people, [and] we wanna bring people together. So, so be it. I can't say 'Stop.' I can't say 'Do it.' It is just a thing — it's not good or bad.

Hetfield said worse than that. He endorsed the use of Metallica's music as torture:

"If the Iraqis aren't used to freedom, then I'm glad to be part of their exposure," James Hetfield, co-founder of Metallica, has said. As for his music being torture, he laughed: "We've been punishing our parents, our wives, our loved ones with this music for ever. Why should the Iraqis be any different?"

Yeah, same interview afaik. Papa Het and his kids will say those bits were "joking", which is why his attempted roll-back to a "mature" non-stance speaks louder to me.

It's almost as though he's a fucking idiot.
