One thing that's apparent from watching these videos is not only the gulf between Steele's creativity as a riff-meistro, his power, diversity and theatricality as a singer, but also his amazing dexterity as a lyricist. It is no mean feat to combine a sense of Victorian revival gothic with modern imagery and wrap it all up in dark wit and humour. He managed to fit a lot of information into his songs.

Obviously this bandwagon is gaining ground. I'm starting a solo project to cash in on it- Type Joe Negative, where I do Joe Dolan songs Steele style. "Oh me oh my, you've made me cry, you're such a pale looking maiden", etc

I've already trademarked Danzig O'Donnell too for the craic

 the temptation to do a quick cover of Pale Looking Maiden in the next jam I do...

Anyway both those songs are grand but not great - nothing wrong with them and being a huge TON fan it is impossible to not enjoy them, total rip off but the elements are enjoyable and look if I could get away with it I would lol (spot the old Third Island song where I nearly directly programmed the drums off the end of Green Man for one of many examples).  The middle/end of Lost Silver in particular is great.  But yeah it just makes me want to put on Type O rather than investigate these much further.

It's a well worn out trope at this stage but you just can't bate the bit of Type O when heading to work on a crisp morning.

Bloody Kisses on here and it's just absolute mastery of the craft.

Use AI to tweak the vocals to get the perfect combination of Mullingar & Brooklyn. 😂

I've had Dead Again on spin over the last few days and weeks, I didn't really enjoy it when it came out first but its growing on me....

It's usually Dead Again/Origin Of.. that are on the turntable here. They pretty much had a flawless run.

Origin of... is some class class album as well. What a great way to sort of remix the debut

Had a run through the discography over the last few days, and yeah, pretty flawless alright. Obviously some are better than the others but I wouldn't have any less than an 8/10

Also forgot how good World Coming Down is, for whatever reason I always tended to forget about it, but it's been getting a lot of listens over the last week

World coming down is top tier for me since it came out. Right place right time thing I suppose, it just hit the sweet spot from the off

OR, BK, OOTF, WCD (top 2 interchangeable and sometimes the other two make their case, so that's top tier)

SD&H (2nd tier)

DA, LIKM (about as good as each other but both leave me wanting, somewhat. Third Tier Type O)

So that's 4 x 10/10, 1 x 9/10, 2 x 8/10.

A fantastic run indeed

In true type o fashion there, you've certainly put your own slant on that one!

Much better than those clone bands missing the point altogether

We laugh, but also we all know this would totally work.

Quote from: ldj on August 12, 2024, 07:52:05 PMGonna take a guess and say it's the guy from Spirit Adrift, high vocals sound exactly like him and they used to be on 20 Buck Spin.

Anyway, song is grand, not really catchy enough for true Type O worship!

So the albums out and he's revealed himself as behind the project, wouldn't be my thing, just sounds like some Type O imitation verses and then reverts back to his regular band for the choruses.
