I remember we had a thread like this on the old forum. Does anyone on here know much about VPNs? Basically I will be home for 3 weeks in December I have a Dazn subscription which I wanted to use while at home but it's currently not available in Ireland.

So I got a VPN app on my phone which I was testing with another streaming service to watch stuff that was only available in another country it worked but as soon as I tired to cast it the streaming seemed to recognize where exactly I was again and it wouldn't display the content. The VPN app like this is useless to me as I only want to watch things on TV not on my phone or laptop.

Also anyone know how to bypass the block Chrome Cast seems to be putting on certain website where they have a cast button but when you try to cast it just shows the blue casting icon on the screen instead of the actual content which again is annoying because in order to cast something when this happens you have to cast from your desktop which means the laptop needs to be remain on the entire time once you close it or close the browser the content stops streaming.

When you're using a Chromecast your phone isn't beaming an actual video to the Chromecast. Your phone is just a remote which tells the Chromecast what to play, and then the Chromecast downloads the video itself and plays it. The Chromecast is connected to the normal WiFi and your phone is running through a VPN. That means the Chromecast is then fetching the video over a regular WiFi connection which is why regional blocks will still effect the Chromecast. You'd need to have a way to have the Chromecast itself running over a VPN in order for it to work. You could run the VPN at the router level, meaning all your network traffic is running through it. You could also try your luck with an app like PdaNet which turns your phone into a hotspot. You'd then need to connect the Chromecast to your phone's hotspot rather than the usual WiFi

If your phone supports it, you can also get a USB to HDMI cable/adaptor which would display your phone's screen on the TV meaning you wouldn't need the Chromecast at all

You can turn a Raspberry Pi into a VPN router for your whole network easily enough.

I did that with NordVPN for a while to use BBC iPlayer on my TV

Thanks for the suggestions lads. For Raspberry Pi thing I don't think I would be able for that I hate computers and know very little other than the basics. I had a Pi box for Kodi a few years ago and it broke after a few months.

Another quick tech related tech question but does anybody know how to get an add blocker on things like the iPhone, Android box, firestick etc? I have one on my laptop so I never realized how many annoying adverts are on the likes of youtube when playing on my phone. If I for example play one of Joe Rogans podcasts on the youtube app through my android box or firestick the episodes stop half way through for a break.
