Customs Charges On A Pedal

Anyone ever ordered a pedal from the USA? I've no other option other than to order direct, what would customs be would anyone know? Value of the pedal is around $240

Depends on the tariff they ship it under - I have sent them out to the US with 8543 70 9099 (3.7% duty) but 9209 92 0000 (2.7% duty) also applies.

If it is coming via An Post and arrives in August with the Revenue customs exchange rate (1.1222) and that $240 includes shipping, it will be worked as:

$240 / 1.1222 = €213.87
€213.87 * 3.7% (worst case) = €7.91

(€213.87 + €7.91) * 23% VAT = €51.00

Duty, VAT, and An Post's handover fee:
€7.91 + €51.00 + €10.00 = €68.91

(An Post's fee for goods over €150 is a tenner apparently, I've only ever received stuff for less than that and been charged €3.50).

So given everything above you would pay around €69, obviously if it ships a different way or the price varies, or the tariff used is different (they might tell you in advance if you ask) it will vary it a bit.  I broke it down so much so you can figure it out yourself too if anything changes.  Hope this helps.

Any import duty will be calculated on the price of the pedal plus the price of shipping. Any time I buy anything from outside the EU, I factor in another 25% to cover the cost of it all. An Post have their fee for processing, the private couriers, DHL, Fedex etc, charge you for the privilege too, if the sender uses them, which tends to be more than the An Post fee.

Mind me asking who you're ordering from?might be worth scouring online to find an eu seller. Reverb is your friend, and there's plenty EU boutique dealers now.

Aaah right, yeah I've looked I to those myself and they don't seem to have any dealers in Europe. I've seen a second hand expanse pop up on Reverb in I think it was Germany, but it sold almost immediately
