After four demos and some self-produced releases, this is the new and most professional Ep of the American death metallers!

Musically speaking influenced by 90's death metal, with an epic touch, and moments of blasting passion... This is the warmer and most shining release of the band! Four songs (and an intro) of analog passion and lust for burning metal!

This recording was Initially released on vinyl in November 2023, but now  sees the light of the scalpel on analog tape format. Black tape with sticker, and pro printed color cover, materialized by NIHILISTIC HOLOCAUST.

CANADIAN ASSAULT Webzine:
This band is from New York City and this EP release consists of four songs and an intro for around 25 minutes of music. Mortiferoth is a trio and features of note bassist Brian Hobbie (ex-Internal Bleeding, ex-Broken Hope). They play driving and furious old school death metal that has a enjoyable atmosphere across the whole warm sounding killer production. The vocal attack is a distinct dual vocals style, for me the growling voice is a bit so-so but still decent, the higher gurgling vocal style on the other hand is excellent. You really should check this out.   - Dale

CROSSFIRE METAL Webzine:

VOICES FROM THE DARKSIDE Webzine:
I first came across Brian Hobbie when "The Cleansing" by CATASTROPHIC was released. The highlights of the press release of that album was of course Trevor Peres and Keith DeVito of OBITUARY and PYREXIA and INTERNAL BLEEDING fame, with Hobbie as a side note. "The Cleansing" was a solid NYDM infused OBITUARY styled Death Metal album. CATASTROPHIC released a second album, which I don't think I ever laid ears on. Luckily Hobbie didn't put the bass down, and nowadays he roams in MORTIFEROTH. A band that hails from New York and has been around since 2015 releasing a good bunch of demos and EPs. The newest EP has been caught by French Nihilistic Holocaust, that have released "... To The Abyss" on tape. We are of course speaking Death Metal, Death Metal delivered with really smooth and catchy guitar riffs, solid mid paced rhythm patterns and a guttural growl latching on the groovy rhythms. The music is a solid mix of NY grooviness and the seamless flow of riffs that especially OBITUARY masters. Together with a state of ambience that IMMOLATION masters, just in a much lighter and nowhere as evil version on this EP. Production wise the EP lacks a bit of power and punch, I reckon the music with a powerful production would kick some serious ass. We have the riffs, the solos and the smashing rhythms. Songwriting wise the tunes are solid. The growl lacks some conviction to make the songs stand out, a more direct and powerful growl with some serious bottom would do wonders for the songs. The double growls on 'Decay' and 'Retaliation Of The Ancient Sorcerers' work really well, more of that spread around the tunes, please. And what a guitar solo on that last track, damn good stuff! That being written, it's still a solid release with some good ideas and good execution. I think we will hear a lot more of MORTIFEROTH the coming years, the guys have some good things going on. BRUTALISM Webzine:
Mortiferoth hail from New York and have been tastefully devastating ears since 2015. While not a very large discography under their belt between splits and EPs, they recently delivered a new EP entitled "...To The Abyss" which builds on their mix of Thrash Death Metal and continues to climb the rungs of the ladder for the title 'cosmic Death Metal,' although Blood Incantation still holds that title supremely. While not as chaotically dissonant as the more renown band, Mortiferoth create a different kind of chaos with their short 5 tracks here but each one is a little different. Opening things up a bit more atmospherically than their previous EP, 'Unholy Frequencies' draws listeners in with some very noisy static and distorted hymn singing that really brings in a sci fi feel before the Death Metal kicks in fully.
The 3 piece performs in a style mixed between Enforced, Vader, and Deicide. One can hear the Thrash element clearly just like the Death Metal parts when a track like 'The Vactican's Elite' comes in; it is rough in the Old School Death Metal style- especially the vocals- but what the band really focus in on is the bass and drums, which is rather unique when most Death Metal bands go for riffs and vocals. The near double bass drumming is very Vader style from Steve Miller, while the guitarwork and multi pronged vocals from Joselo can be hypnotic at times such as on 'Decay' and other times downright ferocious like on the second track. 'Cosmic Winter' is where one can real feel the fury of the band as they go full force Death Metal with the rumbling bass from Brian Hobbie, but Mortiferoth also felt to expand on their songwriting ability as well compared to previous works. The closing 'Retaliation....' is the band's longest track and features some of the best varied vocal work, especially near the middle of the track. It is a bit Thrashier than some might like, but still a good display of how the band pushes their boundaries, even if the outro spoken word parts goes on a bit too long.
While not too much to go on, "...To The Abyss" is another teaser for fans to enjoy. While the vocals sound raw and not as polished, one cannot deny the talent in the instrumental work and can appreciate the more atmospheric direction the band is going in. Those who like Death Metal a bit more unorthodox than the usual fuzzed out technical assaults that have been getting lots of attention lately and enjoy a lot of groove to their riffs with a bass focus from both the bass and drums will really enjoy what Mortiferoth has to offer.
