December 10, 2022, 08:51:41 AM
How'ye,

After working on a few bits over lockdown, in a typically timely manner, we have a coupla tracks finally ready.

https://dark-matter.bandcamp.com/album/phobos-monolyth

We have an accompanying video also

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuKoqSRg3Y0

We'll hopefully continue at this breakneck speed and have more stuff in, I dunno, 2026. Maybe.

I used to listen to a fair bit of this stuff but thought it became quite samey. Any recommendations for interesting stuff I may have missed over the last few years?

Came across this today, fuckin great track. Kinda like My Bloody Valentine meets, well....post-metal.

General Discussion / Space: The Final Frontier

As I'm sure there's fellow nerds here into this kinda stuff. I love these stories

https://www.nasa.gov/press-release/nasa-s-mars-perseverance-rover-provides-front-row-seat-to-landing-first-audio

Is it me or does this stuff feature in a more mainstream way the last few years? As we've collectively made a balls of this planet, space exploration is more important than ever in practical terms, rather than 50 years ago where it was a mickey measuring contest between Russia and America.

Either way, it's a subject I've always been, at least mildly, interested in, ever since my main man Jean-Luc Picard started busting chops on behalf of the Federation.

As a continuation of The Donald and Gemma earlier, amongst all the other shit that seems to be going wrong, even leaving aside Covid, the world is indeed in a state of chassis.

Anyone have any experience using drum machines. Kinda have a hankering to get one and mess around with more synthy stuff. I don't want a steep learning curve. Plug n play jobby.

30 years since Facelift was released. We all know Dirt is a classic but I definitely overlistened to it over the years. Facelift must surely be very close in terms of quality, though. I'd be hard pushed to find weak links on the album. Jaysus, what a band.

A few write ups have appeared in the last 24 hours. Good to see it get a bit of recognition.

Metal Discussion / Pearl Jam - Jeremy Uncensored
June 08, 2020, 12:15:00 AM
"The increase in gun violence since the debut of 'Jeremy' is staggering. We have released the uncensored version of the video which was unavailable in 1992 with TV censorship laws," Pearl Jam said in a statement. "We can prevent gun deaths whether mass shootings, deaths of despair, law enforcement, or accidental."

An already amazing video, not necessarily made better, but cuts to the bone more. Class.

"Of course like many others our finances and prospects for the summer were devastated by the virus. Cancelling the tour has left us in a lot of debt.
We don't have money anymore.
Not to pay the road crew, the bus company, the merchandise costs. It was all broken by this cancellation.
We cannot get summer jobs in this lockdown period. Therefore We are broke. We all have rent to pay. None of us own homes."

It's a sad state of affairs when a really well-established band has to resort to a Go Fund Me campaign as a casualty of this Covid 19. Fellas well into their 40s talking about not being able to get summer jobs. That is highly depressing read.

Metal Discussion / Paradise Lost - Obsidian

New album May 15. I was in the minority in not particularly liking the last album. Felt the side project elements were too prominent. Still, always good to have a new PL to look forward to.

Metal Discussion / CLOUDS - Durere

These guys are fairly prolific so missed some of the more recent stuff but they've a new album out. They're not the type to venture too far out of their comfort zone but guest vocalists are a nice touch. Anyway, at a glance seems pretty good. Slow and miserable, what's not to like. Apart from joy, maybe.

Metal Discussion / Amorphis - Queen of Time

Amorphis - Quuen of Time

I can't remember if I posted about this on MI. This is a great album, the first I'd given any time to, despite knowing the name for donkeys years.  QoT has a great balance of clean/heavy vox, great technical playing while keeping plenty of hooks. It doesn't veer too far into the proggier side. In fact I think they get it just right.

I assume the earlier stuff is more traditional death/doom but do they have gothier elements throughout? Looking for that kind of fix, more so then traditional death/doom.

There's a big hullabaloo about this Christmas song being banned by certain radio stations. This is only the latest in a very, very long list of things that are/have been censored.  Is it partly due to me being an old grumpy fucker or has the world finally gone mad? Historical statues being knocked, , certain movies not being screened any more, fear of even speaking out with any sort of more traditional opinions.... Where does it end?

Any of this overly PC nonsense boil yer bloods or is it just me?

Classifieds / sold!
November 30, 2018, 09:51:25 PM
Selling on behalf of a friend. Amp is probably 15 years old but wouldn't have seen much use in a few years. As he's moving away next month he's trying to clear stuff out. He hasn't a clue what it'd be worth, but as a guide I said maybe €250.  He'd accept less I'm sure. Collection from Limerick.

Classifieds / 2 x Ozzy Tickets for Sale (seated)
November 30, 2018, 09:43:59 PM
As above.

Selling a pair of seated tickets for a friend who's now moving country, so won't be able to make it. Face value which he says is €80 each.  They're those printable tickets as opposed to hard copy but I'll vouch for him/them.

If you or anyone you know is looking, shoot me a PM.

Jesus, can't believe how much I missed checking this thread on MI, despite it going quiet on Spud's front!

My Korg Triton started acting up so I picked up a Behringer DeepMind 6. Haven't done a whole pile with it so far but initial impressions are very positive.

Also splurged on a few mini pedals to fill a back-up board, which I think I'll use with my synths.
