Quote from: Barrytron on Today at 10:20:59 AMSomething about Harris' control freakery really rubs me the wrong way. But I guess it works. He reminds me of a chancer wedding band leader...getting his nephew in to cover the gigs. "Shouldn't we try him out, play a few tunes and have a pint? It was 42 years after all. What about feel and personality and..."
"He'll be fine, get in the van Adrian"

I don't think it works. Same noodly shite intro/outros that add 15 unwanted minutes per album, same shite idea that they're a prog band, same shite production on every single album since BNW. For one of the biggest heavy metal bands on the planet (that features three guitarists to boot), they've got one of the worst guitar tones going.

Maiden has been little more than a marketing platform since AMoLaD. Fuck Harris.

Yep, he's already listed as a member on MA

Yeah my first (and last) dog was 17. Gutted, 100% couldn't sign up for that again.

Sorry for your losses, Carnage.

Plus spitting blood is clearly a metal-as-fuck pursuit.

Quote from: Ducky on December 07, 2024, 01:23:06 AMBlack Mark is a fucking masterclass in atmosphere. Like I normally buzz off the technical stuff, and some of this album could be from a "my first riff/drum beat" class, but it's some of the best music ever recorded.
And liberally nicking stuff off early Manowar😂

I was today days old when I learned I should revisit early Manowar 🤣

Quote from: Carnage on December 07, 2024, 12:39:00 AMDocumentary on that Tears For Fears album on Sky Arts right now.

Ara fuck. Sky Arts does repeat a lot (been rather enjoying random episodes of Tales of the Unexpected), so will keep an eye out for it.

Riedl throwing shapes is without a doubt one of the defining moments of humanity. I'm just annoyed I didn't note the timestamp so I can "lads, look!"

Quote from: Black Shepherd Carnage on December 06, 2024, 11:45:03 PMThe entire solo/guitar break in Bathory's Call From The Grave. In retrospect, I think that album was pretty much my gateway into really appreciating the lower-fi end of metal.

I've just stuck Black Mark on reading this. All lights are off, looking at a glass of merlot and the glow of the fire.

Fuckin' beauty  :abbath:

Also have a stove, and a log pile. And a power bank charged to 100%, and headphones at same.

One of the best albums of the 1980s in any genre.

Absolutely. Only got into it a few years ago and by god was I missing out. A very special album that really doesn't feel like anything else in my collection, even other albums by the same band. Spectacular stuff altogether

My much older brother was mad for them back in the 80s, so I've been lucky enough to have this album as part of my soundtrack my entire life. Still sounds fucking might too, so it does.

You'd think it'll be an album of "Everybody Wants to Rule The World" (which in itself wouldn't be a bad thing as that's one of the best songs of the 80s), but nope, away they go down all sorts of alleys.

Do you know their first album "The Hurting"? It does similar (and it's almost as good).

I love how it's pure pop and then will suddenly swerve off into some complex, almost proggy, instrumental section. Great album alright.

Yep, I'd say "The Working Hour" is my favourite song of theirs. It's almost Steely Dan-esque in its texture.

Blood Incantation - Absolute Elsewhere.

Have deliberately avoided it for a while now to let it bed in a bit. This is something akin to finally getting my ears around the likes of Human, Focus, Unquestionable Presence.

Will see how I feel in a year or so, but this thing is set to be one of my all-timers.

There's some wild info coming out too - one company today reversed it's time limit on anesthesia. What the actual fuck, like. Imagine coming around from having an operation only to get slapped with a bill because your insurance company only covers you for x amount of time under anesthetic.

Same ones took down their corporate info.

Looks like the company this fella was CEO of had a 32% rejection rate for claims. The US really is a hellscape in terms of healthcare.
