Agreed. I skipped the Pestilence ones when I ripped it, and cut out the Carcass ones (apart from the first one, but I made it a separate track, and added the TOTT B-sides at the end), much better listening experience.

I ripped the Pestilence ones just to keep a "complete" back up, but they never see the storage of a mobile device.

Must sit down with Audacity and Necroticism some evening.

Divine Chaos - The Way to Oblivion. Decent modern-sounding unga-bunga death/thrash to sup a few beers to. Reminiscent of "Existence is Futile"-era Revocation.

Cruciamentum - Obsidian Refractions. Whopper, love it. You know that Douglas Adams book, "The Meaning of Lif"? The one that reappropriates place names as common feelings/occurrences that we all know but don't have a handy word for? I wonder is there a term in there for when a band releases an album that has a song that is named for the previous album? Hmm.

Heart - The Road Home. Ann Wilson has an unreal set of pipes.

Been doing the "Spotify Wrapped" thing this evening, so in third place, Enya - "Watermark", Depeche Mode - "Black Celebration", and Revocation - "Netherheaven".

Black Celebration is just fantastic all the way through

The run from Black Celebration to Songs of Faith and Devotion is a whopper.

I'd go one farther back and throw Some Great Reward in there too but they fell off a bit after Songs of Faith and Devotion for sure. A couple of very good ones after that, Playing the Angel and Memento Mori are great but the rest is OK to terrible. Have you tried Some Great Reward at all? It's right up there

I haven't actually given Momento Mori a fair shake yet, might remedy that later.

I went into Memento Mori with zero expectations given what had come before it from them. I was more than pleasantly surprised when it was actually good. Honestly didn't think they had it in them at this stage of the career.

That's already better than anything off Tyranny of Souls, and I fairly enjoyed that album.

I've always enjoyed it, but I think the older I get the more I come around to the thought that The Chemical Wedding is the best record that Dickinson (and Smith) was ever involved in.

I'll give you the first one as it sets up the album nicely. The others are unwelcome interruptions IMO.

I agree with this. It's my least-played Carcass record, when it should be my most.

See also - Pestilence's Testimony of the Ancients. At least they had the good grace to make the interludes seperate tracks (at least on whichever CD of it I have).

Dio. TV Crimes was a decent tune, if memory serves.

Ah no wonder I never heard it so. Dio is like a dirty word to me when it comes to Sabbath. All they had to do was make up a new name. Like Sepultura with Greene, it's not that it's bad it's just not what it says on the tin

Hot take, but I agree (about Dio at least, as I fucking love some of the Greene-era Seps stuff  )

I also think Dio is vastly overrated in general. He had a great technique/was naturally gifted as a vocalist, but he also bored me to tears. Doubly so with the D'n'D/dork bent to his lyrics.

This is like asking should you take the Ferrari, Porsche, or Lamborghini out to the country house at the weekend 

Master of Reality is nailed on as my favourite for sure. It blew my mind hearing it for the first time in 2000, so that was filtered through a few years of listening to Metallica, Slayer, etc. it must've been a revelation hearing it back in 1971.

Tempted to put Paranoid second, purely as my favourite Sabbath song is on it, namely Hand of Doom 

Defo a bang of Ozzy off it.

Would give the album a whirl based off that second track.

I can see why you wouldn't like the vocals to be fair, they have a fairly distinct timbre to them. And given how many albums they have now since I liked one, I wouldn't go across the road to see them live or anything. Is Abruscato only on the first one anyway? He's class on it indeed but if it's him on the second one, I'm less impressed

I kinda like the vocals but oh man, the fucking lyrics are just cringe. And it's kinda hard to ignore them as they're cleanly sang, front and center.
