So, like many others, I now have a bit more extra listening time and an opportunity to catch up on stuff I bought years ago and never gave enough attention to, one of these being Sentenced's Amok. Absolutely hooked and the War Ain't Over is one of the finest openers I've ever heard. So where to from here? There's a fairly large discography so any recommendations, avoids etc would be appreciated.

Metal Discussion / Vanity / Nemesis
March 10, 2020, 02:53:53 PM
I suppose I could have resurrected the 'lost albums' thread for this one, but no matter. Picked this up as an impulse buy in Tower the other day (btw great to see them stocking the Invictus releases), not a huge sacrifice at only a tenner. This is the only Frost release I'd never paid any prior attention to, and I suppose at the time of its release, so much reputational damage had been done by Cold Lake that this suffered as a result. Anyway, I think it's fucking fantastic. Obviously the darkness of the early material had been more or less jettisoned at this stage, and there are definite remnants of the unloved Cold Lake material to be heard, but I'm really enjoying this so far, and it has far exceeded my expectations. Any other fans?

Gigs and Festivals / Jawbox - Whelan's, 9th June

Might be of interest to a few here, I've certainly seen the name mentioned on a few threads. Just popped up on my fb through Umack page, a pleasant surprise I must say.

Metal Discussion / The SFX nostalgia thread
September 09, 2019, 01:13:35 PM
Inspired by the my tribe thread and the references to the Dublin metal scene in the 90s, please feel free to share your memories of this iconic venue. The first gig I ever attended outside of Cork was Korn in the SFX in 1996. I was relatively young at the time, 16, and was absolutely in awe of the place. This was well before Korn became huge, so there was a huge mix of metal fans, loads of black metal tees from what I can remember as well as the obvious big bands of the day, such as Slayer, Machine Head, etc. I was fairly naive as well, and was completely taken aback at the local scrotes, some who seemed as young as 10, trying to sell drugs outside!! I just checked the Wikipedia page, the list of some of the bands who played over the years is phenomenal.

Metal Discussion / New Tool album
July 31, 2019, 01:50:55 PM
So I guess this has been the talk of the internet the last few days. Not going to bother posting any links as I assume anyone with a passing interest is more than familiar with the Joe Rogan interview, etc. Can the final product live up to the hype? I wouldn't call myself a Tool fanatic by any means, but I am certainly interested to see how this turns out. As far as I'm concerned, they have had a fairly patchy discography, with Undertow and Aenima being their most consistent works. Lateralus and 10,000 Days were meandering, overly self-indulgent albums which have great moments but would test the patience of all but the most ardent fans.

General Discussion / Speakers, Hi-Fi, Tech etc...
January 22, 2019, 06:37:11 PM
tried unsuccessfully to get a similar thread off the ground on MI so absolutely no reason to assume this will fare any better...
Anyway, looking to get a decent Bluetooth speaker system that will work primarily for playing music through spotify, but also functions as a decent soundbar for telly. I've been recommended the Sonos Beam but it's ever do slightly outside my price range. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Metal Discussion / Noise Rock
January 05, 2019, 06:53:19 PM
I had started a thread on this on Metalireland, and many of you were gracious enough to give me some great recommendations, but alas, MI is no more and I neglected to take note of much of what was offered. Oops, my bad. Anyway, please feel free to make some suggestions as to decent Noise(y) Rock offerings in the mould of classic AmRep material. Contemporary is preferable as I'm familiar enough with older stuff of this ilk, but that said, I may have overlooked some gems in the past so feel free to throw in whatever tickles your fancy...
