Jason Roeder started posting cryptic stuff on Instagram at the end of last year. Wiped clear all his posts and then only used it to sell gear. I can't remember what the messages were but they were along the lines of "Fuck this, I'm done."

Odd because he was usually such a positive person.

Now, as of yesterday, his Instragram is a marketplace for his drum kits and some vinyl. He also posted the message below.

Not sure what the deal with Sleep is but I have heard in the past that someone involved in running their business affairs is allegedly a bit of a head-the-ball.

Shame really - he was a monster behind the kit for Sleep. He really made for linchpin where the other two were concerned in live situations.

Not metal but I know that there's a few heads on here into them.

TRM have some mighty riffs and are one of the best live bands that this island has produced in the last 30 years.

€20 too - bargain in this day and age. Nice way to beat the January blues.

I got my ticket from Whelan's website rather than Ticketbastard.

Gigs and Festivals / Darsombra
May 31, 2024, 09:21:54 AM
I have nothing to do with these gigs but I saw Darsombra in Cork last night and it was great craic. Well worth a punt if you're at a loose end.

Psyched-out 15-minute space jams with a fair bit of heft. Think they blew out the PA in the venue.  :abbath:

Dolan's Limerick tonight and Anseo in Dublin tomorrow.

General Discussion / Tales Of Ordinary Madness

Things that you encounter in your day-to-day life that beggar belief. Not drink related.

A new lad started in the place where I work a few weeks ago. He's doing 2 days a week and studying in a technical college at the same time.

His folks are Polish, he grew up here for the most part but he still has a bit of Eastern European twang and vernacular.

This morning my boss came into me and asked if I'd take him under my wing for the day and show him some of the basic processes.

About half an hour into the job and I have him handing me my tools, explaining what's what when I ask;

"Do you think you'll stick the course and be a fitter, Janusz?"

"Yes, I like the college and this work - it interests me." he says.

"Very good. Is this your first placement?" I ask handing him back a torque wrench.

"Eh... yes."

"Well stick with us and..."

"No. Not first placement."

"Oh right. Fair enough. Pass me the threadlock."

"Last place was OK but I had to leave after I got in the fight with training instructor."

"An argument, you mean?"

"No. A fight. I beat up the man."

Not my gig to promote - but I didn't see it posted here.

Ten Past Seven are always worth the price of admission.

I haven't seen Uncultivates live yet but the videos of their gigs look absolutely wild and Mini (ex-Horse, Low Violent, Terriers) is one of the best frontmen in Ireland.

The other two bands are completely new to me - Flower Loft and Single Men In Their Twenties.

€10 for 4 bands is a bargain.

Absolutely shit name for a venue.

Gigs and Festivals / MELTS - Irish Tour - Sept. 2024
April 29, 2024, 11:26:49 AM
A few of you mentioned a liking for the new MELTS record in the "Non-Metal Now Playing" thread.

They're playing a fair few gigs around Ireland in September - looks like they'll reach most corners.

Thurs 19 September - Cork, Coughlans
Fri 20 September - Listowel, Mike the Pies
Sat 21 September - Limerick, Dolans
Thurs 26 September - Galway, Roisin Dubh
Fri 27 September - Belfast, Ulster Sports Club
Sat 28 September - Dublin, Button Factory

Orange Goblin playing Opium in Dublin (October 4th) and Limelight 2 (October 5th) in Belfast.

Not sure if I can be bothered my arse going to Dublin. They've been poor the last few times that I've seen them. Usually good for a piss up though.

The usual requests please, lads - decent coffee spots/restaurants/sights/record shops

Also bars - particularly any metal/punk divey spots - I think that I have the craft breweries sorted.

Looking at the reported price of everything over there - I doubt that I'll be doing very much pint or record shopping!

General Discussion / Toronto Recommendations
February 08, 2024, 04:19:49 PM
I'll be in Toronto for a few days later this month. I seem to recall one or two of you living/lived there.

Any recommendations for bars (divey, punk/metal or otherwise) and record & book shops would be greatly appreciated.

Have tickets already for the ROM, the AGO and I plan on going to the Hockey Hall Of Fame too.

Looks like Dublin has been left off this one.

Haven't seen High On Fire in nearly a decade - not since they toured "Luminferous" and played the Button Factory. That was a stormer, if I recall correctly.

General Discussion / Vienna - Bars/Record Shops/Etc.
October 23, 2023, 11:35:07 AM
Headed to Vienna for a long weekend. I have the basic sightseeing covered. Anything worth seeing from a metal/alt. perspective?

The gig that I was going to Toundra/Monkey 3 has been cancelled. Toundra look to have called it a day and jacked in the whole EU tour.

Not my show to promote but I spotted it earlier today.

It's a BYOB in St. Peter's Church (The Vision Centre). August 26th.

50/50 on going to this or another gig in town the same night. Should be a cracker all the same - last one in there sold out.

Is there anyway of deleting a thread after you make a pure balls of it?

Once again the mighty Elder leave us off their tour.

I spoke to Nick DiSalvo about this twice on the few occasions that I have met him. He said that they would love to play here and mentioned that there doesn't seem to be any interest from Irish promoters to book them.

Surely Elder would have enough of a draw to do at least Dublin and Belfast shows? Maybe their fee is too big? Whatever the reason - here are the tour dates below:

27.10.23 Erfurt (DE), Bandhaus†
28.10.23 Hamburg (DE), Lazy Bonez Festival*
29.10.23 Copenhagen (DK), Pumpehuset*
31.10.23 Amersfoort (NL), Fluor*

I saw this poster earlier and I thought that it was some sort of dream festival thing that you see on social media sometimes.

Turns out that it's fucking real!

I thought that Ozzy announced that it was game over (maaaaaan) recently which is why I thought it was fake.

Apparently it's $600USD a ticket.

General Discussion / MLB

Probably a giant swing and a miss here but...

Any fans of baseball on the board?

Today is opening day for the new season.

I'm a Chicago Cubs fan so I have very little delusions of grandeur but they have a strong roster this year. Seiya Suzuki, Ian Happ, Nico Hoerner, Patrick Wisdom, Kyle Hendricks, Yan Gomes and new signing Dansby Swanson could click and run riot.

I was excited by the prospect of Seiya Suzuki coming to the majors from Japan last year. He had a dream start, then a stumble but now has had a year to settle in and a lot of time to shake off the minor injury - needs to start earning that massive paycheck.

Swanson has a World Series ring to his name already but the Cubs are a far different organisation than the Atlanta Braves (possibly one of the best run ball clubs in the game). He looks quality in Spring Training though so I hope he hits the ground running.

I feel that the Cubs will miss Willson Contreras though. A power-house, don't fuck with me, war machine. I went to see the Cubs at Wrigley Field a few times last year and he was always fun to watch. Like Charlie Sheen's character Rich "Wild Thing" Vaughn in "Major League" - except Contreras is a catcher.

Outside of personal hopes - I reckon that it's going to be hard to look beyond the Houston Astros and the San Diego Padres to get to the World Series - the Padres to edge it.

The Seattle Mariners may give the Astros some competition in the AL West but I can't see a miracle happening there.

The Padres may feel some heat from the LA Dodgers who spend money like a Fianna Fáil TD ordering rounds in the Dáil bar but, again, I think this is the Padres' year in the NL West.

In NL Central - the St. Louis Cardinals will probably do the same as last year - win the division and get battered in post season. I hope the Cardinals make shit of their year because obviously I want the Cubs make a good showing of themselves in the division.

The New York Yankees and Tornto Blue Jays will slug it out in the AL East - I'm going to say the Blue Jays will take the division.

Probably the NY Mets in NL East. Can't see the Atlanta Braves keeping pace although they'll start and finish strong.

AL Central... who the fuck knows? It's like a shoot-out in the old West there.

Come back in November to see how wrong I was...

Musicians forum / Cork - Guitar Set-Ups
March 06, 2023, 04:07:52 PM
I need a set-up/service on my Gibson SG and I'd prefer not to hand it over to any oul fuckin' eejit.

Does anyone have a reliable guitar tech in Cork (preferably city)? The lad that I was using has gone to ground, no sign of him.

This place has some good reviews online but I don't know anyone who has used him. http://corkguitars.ie/

I've used Steve Nixon in the past - his work is very good but he can also be very slow at getting guitars back to you.

Grand Social in Dublin.

Savage line-up. Weedeater are fucking monsters and Telekinetic Yeti's "Primordial"/"Abominable" are belters. I've seen Mars Red Sky a few times and they're always solid.

This gig is on a poxy Tuesday. Fuck sake.

Boss Keloid are doing two dates next month.

Their "Melted On The Inch" record is great and still gets regular spins from me. Supposed to be cracking live - not sure that I'll find out though cos there's no Cork shows and with the prices of Dublin hotels on a Friday night - I'll probably have to skip it.

Unsane are making a welcome return to the island. I haven't seen them live in nearly 20 years.

Dublin and Belfast gigs too. Not my gig to promote. Just heard about it earlier (and probably wouldn't have heard about it at all otherwise).
