General Discussion / Annoying Girlfriends
January 25, 2020, 08:52:03 AM
Was going to put this in pet peeves but probably deserves a topic of its own. I'm talking in a band scenario, really can be a gear grinder and a source of resentment. Anyone else with me? You know the type of person who's always there, in the way, hates them music but refers to the band as "we"

Of course it's right across the board I was Just reading an interview done with Slayer back in the day and it seemed Lombardo's mrs
was quite the source of tension , especially when they started demanding things like their own private dressing room at each venue, kinda defeats the purpose of the touring experience no?

Anyone else enjoying this? Have to say I'm really impressed with it! Maybe it's the fact that they've been away such a long time and my expectations weren't much, but it's on the deck here yet again. Can't help thinking the desire to repeat listen is greater than it has been when a new Exodus, Testament, Metallica etc drops

Metal Discussion / Janick Gers - Thick Cunt
September 29, 2019, 04:34:38 PM
Surprised this hasn't happened before, his guitar went flying whilst he was doing his spazzing out routine

https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/watch-janick-gerss-guitar-slip-out-of-his-hands-during-iron-maidens-san-antonio-concert/

What is it aside from a few tunes that keeps him in Maiden? His live act is completely distracting and at odds with the way the rest of the band perform.

Metal Discussion / Vital Remains Appreciation + Drama

Anyone else into these lads? They've released some classic stuff over the years, I've pretty much enjoyed it all up to Dechristianize. Icons of Evil was incredibly bloated and it's  hard to believe it's been 13 years since that record came out, Tony Lazaro has said practically every year since then there'd be a new record the following year

As I was wondering what they're up to if anything I noticed on Facebook they'd fired their latest singer (He's done 7 years with them to be fair, Brian Werner - who seems to be a complete gimp by the way) and so the inevitable shit slinging has started, there's some wild allegations in there though and to credit  all parties they're digging deep for dirt. It's all there! Racism, Money Owed, People Taken Advantage of, Transgenders, dodgy strip club practices.......

http://archive.jsonline.com/news/milwaukee/Suspect-arrested-in-racist-fliers-case-385116081.html/?fbclid=IwAR1QEvGiKdTuhppQHqmx0lwiZMh2_bWFt31lv65NI6EbqYVn0MYBeChq6GI

A few of the ex vocalists/members have come out to claim Lazaro is a bit of a slippery character, owes lots of money, doesn't acutally write any of the material even though he's claimed he wrote every note on every record. Good stuff here and there about how Dave Suzuki was completely taken advantage of etc. Tony is very dedicated to deleting most of the spicy comments so head over if you fancy a good read/chuckle this morning.  Also worth having a look at is the wikipedia page, that is some list of ex members!

Metal Discussion / Musicians That Can't Be Arsed
June 07, 2019, 12:31:35 PM
Jack Owen must surely win this, can't be arsed playing the lead properly, can't be bothered rocking out with the rest of the band. Amazing to thing this guy has had a 30+ year carreer in music and only managed to be marginally enthused for a tiny fraction of it.

Only clicked on this because it's not often Cannibal belt this one out these days.

Anyone who witnessed them at the Alice in Chains shows would testify none of this happened.

Quote
What made this show even more special was that AIC themselves selected Belfast's very own genre-bending alt outfit Wynona Bleach (formerly R51) to join them on the Irish leg of this tour. Interviewing the band earlier in the day, the 5-piece was ecstatic about the opportunity, calling it an honour to open for one of their sonic idols. I was told on good authority that the Alice in Chains lads, despite the austere rockstar demeanours, were "absolutely lovely" – giving Wynona Bleach much needed pep talks and being quite hospitable.

At 8pm, Wynona Bleach took to the stage to the sounds of new unreleased track 'Drag' which appropriately set the pace for the evening's proceedings. "Energy" summarises Wynona Bleach. The band were going for the neck in every respect of the phrase, witnessed by 1000 people populating the Telegraph Building at the time. Excitement and enthusiasm oozed from every note coming over that PA reciprocated by a cohort of loyal fans, as well as new fans. I have seen the band on a number of occasions in the past. They propel themselves into each performance with an uncompromising drive and delivery. Their support set to Alice In Chains escalated that even further. Infectious pop hooks met ethereal Cocteau Twins-esque vocals, juxtaposed with incredibly aggressive fuzz-laden Pumpkins riffage, creatively modulated guitar leads, punchy syncopated flowing basslines, and bombastic drumming from the one man jackhammer that is Matty!

Amongst the highlights of their set included 'Eyes Burning', 'Cherrydream', the cheerfully syncopated 'Sugar' and the compelling 'Heavy Friends' which closed their set. If that wasn't enough, they even threw in a cover of Curve's 'Coast Is Clear'! A striking performance from your new favourite band.

Anyone into these lads?

They've been slowly but surely moving away from the post rock style of Fire In Our Throats over the course of the last few records to return to the sludgy metallic style found on Australasia and the first EP. Have to say, really like the two tracks I've heard so far.

Anyone see this craic the other week at Keep it True?

John Cyriis would give Axl Rose a run for his money, Apparently he took bookings for the band but forgot to assemble a lineup, only doing so the week of the gig. According to posts in the wake of the gig, he refused to get out of a taxi because the festival hadn't provided security , arriving on stage almost 2 hours late, band were completley shambolic and spent 4 songs looking at each other as you would with such little rehearsal. Afterward, Cyriis attacked one of his bandmates and trashed his hotel room, cancelling the remainder of the dates in the process.

Seemed to limp out of existence over the past while, I knew they left subscribers hanging but Ian Glasper has posted claiming they owe him hundreds and owes others thousands!

This seems to be the done thing now, if something fails bury your head in the sand and end communication. Festivals Magazines Record Labels , seen a few go fund mes end this way too...

Metal Discussion / Phil Demmel On Robb Flynn

Wouldn't be a metal board without a Robb Flynn thread...

Worse than I imagined, no wonder the lads all quit. Don't talk between songs, don't point (wtf?)

McClain returning to Sacred Reich makes sense, play metal with a bunch of laid back dudes.

Metal Discussion / Backing Tracks
February 14, 2019, 06:57:02 PM
With Kiss getting a bit of heat over their use of backing tracks at the minute, I thought the topic was worthy of discussion . They're certainly not the only ones playing to backing tracks, Wasp, Motley Crue, Def Leppard all do it, but younger acts are at it too. Ghost for example use a ton of pre-recorded material and Behemoth used a shitload of vocal and prerecorded music to boost the sound last week. It doesn't detract from a good show in some instances but on the other it's not really a "live" experience. There's fewer and fewer bands giving a pure live show.

Metal Discussion / Unfair Dismissal - Rob Dukes
January 31, 2019, 11:20:47 AM
Just read this quite bitter article with Rob Dukes. Some of these guys are so fucking deluded. I do feel for the guy in the sense that he lost his pay packet at an awkward age but you're a bog standard vocalist in a band that no matter how much are romanticised never cut the mustard commercially. Talk of Holt "abandoning" his brothers etc. Who wouldn't have joined Slayer after a 30 odd year career playing bars and clubs, spoken of in the same breath as the big four but never actually seeing the cash.

http://loudwire.com/gary-holt-abandoned-exodus-for-slayer-bandmate-says/

More generally speaking, how do guys like Dukes etc for a second not consider that Zetro will make a return to the band at some point. Yeah, they fucking hate each other but when it comes to business and numbers the call will be made, how do these guys not see that? Blaze was the exact same in Maiden, loads of other examples, are their egos that far off?. The only one who seemed to be aware that he had a finite stint in a major act was Ripper in Judas Priest.
