I always found it interesting how Marc Bolan wrote these songs that were generally just one or two riffs repeated and the songs don't get boring. Monolith and Mambo Sun are two of my favorites on this album.

Very underrated influence on hard rock and metal imo.

Worth watching in full. Sadlier nails the national sentiment, and great to see him be let say it all and for it to be broadcast to all.

Hang on, so the word is "melodeon"!? I've only ever heard it in "skinny malink melodeon legs" (pronounced mell-OH-jun) and never would have guessed it was "melodeon"!

King Lear is quality. Read it last year for the first time since my early 20s. Also watched this adaptation:

For years, would have said Seventh Son. In typical style, it was the first album of theirs I really got into, so that made it stick out. These days though, I don't think I could choose between it, Number of the Beast, and Somewhere In Time.

Don't get to do it nearly as often as I'd like, but another jaunt up the Pyrenees this weekend, culminating in a plunge into a glacial lake. A great hike just can't be bate

Quote from: Mooncat on May 21, 2026, 07:09:55 PMWhat Zappa was it? I was a huge fan in the past, but now find some of his immature lyrics tough to listen to.

It was nothing that'll change your mind on that front

Was watching this interview with him, hostile even by his standards, and at one point he says that the songs of his he likes are the ones other people probably hate. Then he lists three (at 1m20), all of which can be found on The Man from Utopia.

Balls, hadn't seen that! Huge part of what folk recognize as Zappa's sound.

Herbie Hancock - Sextant

Been an age. Really enjoyed the revisit. Maybe listening to Zappa yesterday primed my brain.

Herself has been wanting to watch Euphoria for ages, so we went through the first season a couple months back and are now on S3 week by week. It's grand, or rather uneven, sometimes great, sometimes unbearably cringe. Amazing cinematography throughout though, and well beyond just the 35mm consideration. Also, Zendaya, in the first two seasons anyway, performs a blinder. Will be rewatching her performance in Dune through a different lens (35mm?  :D ) next time.

Twas. History of Violence has a steamy MILF-dressed-as-cheerleader scene.

If we were to make a MW "dead horse" list, as forums of yore sometimes had, I'd put Roots up top
