Quote from: Taranis on November 20, 2025, 10:27:46 AMIt really does sound like something that came out of Oz in the mid to late nineties

I like the sound of that! Pre-ordered the new one.

Have to admire the "no-tunes online" approach too, but wonder how long that can last. Cool to see Dying Victims take on a young Irish band.

Quote from: Eoin McLove on January 28, 2026, 07:37:06 PMNice one, Lorcan. Are you recording everything yourself with this doom death project or have you a drummer, singer etc?

Hey Andy! Hope you're keeping well in Oz. It's looking like it'll be all me except drums - I have a drummer in mind as I simply cannot program drums to save my life. Glad to hear you're active and writing/recording yourself!

I've pivoted recently from being in two fairly active bands to just one low-activity band (album recorded and coming out later this year with some very limited local shows).

It's a relief to be honest. With work and family commitments, I was feeling increasingly stretched thin - especially with the drives into a major city, parking, dragging gear around, managing band mates' schedules. More than anything, if you want to move forward, you end up becoming a "band dad" - with other members just looking to you to set things up and fix problems, but nevertheless chasing them for their approval on things. I think I've mentioned the term "male learned helplessness" to the missus more times in recent years than I can remember. I miss the waiting around before and after shows the least, it drives me up the wall.

Slowly tapping away at a very specific death-doom solo project right now, which is great because I just write parts and record when I have time or feel inspired. It's slow going getting a handle on Reaper, but I still feel like I learn something new every time I sit down to it. Having total control is nice but yeah, now I have to be good at everything.  :D

Quote from: DecyI've been in the same (slow and unproductive) band for 20 years now, with absolutely no plans of stopping.

What's up Decy! I'd never call SG slow - glad to hear you and the boys are still ripping it up.

Liking the sound of that! I always enjoyed the vocals in For Ruin - reminds me a lot of Mikael Stanne from Dark Tranquility.

Running Wild - Slavery

"CELERY...the bane of the sea!
CELERY...and humanity!"

Quote from: Giggles on July 31, 2025, 08:13:14 AMA lad I used to live with had Paranoid on one day he starts singing the chorus "can you help me, thought you were my friend"?

We later fell out over some money he owes me. The signs were there!!

 I never really thought about it, but always assumed he said 'Can't you find my brain?' Halp I am unbrained

Gigs and Festivals / Dublin Doom Day - March 7th
January 15, 2026, 04:03:37 PM

I was randomly googling 'Dublin Doom Day' to try to remember who was on some of the older line-ups, and was happy to see it looks like there's a new edition coming in March. I assume it's Mark Leigh still involved with running it? Fair dues! Nice poster too.

This passed me by! I really liked 'The Assassination...', but 'Flowers of Evil' left me cold. Like you said, I think they do have the capacity to write some great stuff but they can be very hit or miss in the last few years. I'll give this a go.

Just fucking amazing in every way (apart from the nameless goon guitarist's haircut)

Yes indeed. My first metal festival, what an experience seeing them annihilate the place.

These vids are going to be great to enjoy over the Xmas break.

I've been getting a lot of mileage out of this latter-era Morbid Angel vid, from around the time of 'Heretic'. Amazing sound, lots of different shots from different cameras, and an interesting setlist from an odd period in their history.

Also, against all the odds, I've been getting quite into older In Flames lately. Never thought I'd say that. But this video of them has a good sound, great setlist, and the crowd are so into they actually push the stage back into the wall.

A pair of preview tracks are up now via the Nuclear War Now! bandcamp here. Full release via LP, CD and cassette set for early 2023. For fans of Blasphemy, Demoncy, Slayer.

Thundering forth with frenzied intensity, Montreal's Profane Order return with their second full-length, 'One Nightmare Unto Another'. From its first moments, the record summons merciless blackened death metal soaked in the old blood of the 90's trailblazers. The band's first release with Nuclear War Now!, this latest release features seven tracks of rapid-fire aggression and bestial hostility.

Incubating slowly as the plague months passed, 'One Nightmare Unto Another'' reveals a rearmed and retaliatory variant of the group. Pared down to a maniac core of two members, ILLUSORY (Spectral Wound) and OLCADÓIR (Skumstrike) invoke the dark gods of ancient black and death metal. Fans of Blasphemy, Demoncy, Beherit and the wildest excesses of Slayer will find fresh meat to feast on amid the record's barbaric purity.

Packed with demented solos, seething vocals, and a pounding drum assault in the finest tradition of Canadian black/death metal, the album exhibits a violent and pitliless focus. As such, it represents a powerful and distinct follow-up to the band's acclaimed 2019 debut record, 'Slave Morality' and 2017's 'Tightened Noose of Sanctimony' EP, emitting pure hatred as the group shifts from one nightmarish era to the next.

Befitting the band's most concentrated and corrosive material yet, 'One Nightmare Unto Another' features artwork by the renowned Alex Shadrin of Nether Temple design (artwork for Morbosidad, Esoctrilihum, Tetragrammacide, and more). Acrid and reeking of disdain, this latest full-length from Profane Order offers a pitiless bludgeoning and bloodthirsty portent of further violence to come.

Nuclear War Now! are set to release 'One Nightmare Unto Another' in early 2023 on limited edition LP, CD, and cassette.

They are playing local to me next month, so like Andy, I'll have to take a stab at their last few albums and give them another go. I didn't really bother with the last one after being uninspired by 'Where Greater Men Have Fallen'. but absolutely need to give them another go.

They'll be playing with Sacramentum who will be playing all of 'Far Away from the Sun' and for once, I kind of wish Primordial would deliver a full set of oldies as well. Alas, I reckon we'll get a raft of newer cuts and just a morsel or two from 'Spirit...' or 'Journey's End'. I know I'll enjoy the set more if I do take the time to spin the newer stuff.

Lots of good bands mentioned already.

I rate Ossuary too. I've played their 'Supreme Degradation' EP to death. Really miserable death with a bit of doom. Might appeal to any 'Mental Funeral' fans. I see they are touring Europe later this year with Innumerable Forms and Faceless Burial, which sounds like a fun lineup.

Thinking of which, I really enjoyed that Innumerable Forms album from a few years back. Nothing particularly revolutionary about it but just perfectly executed.

And yeah, I am particularly looking forward to that Sedimentum album. The band shares members with Outre Tombe (who are great if you just want headbanging Morgoth / Bolt Thrower stuff) but has a bit more to them in terms of originality. Teaser track they put out sounds great.

I'm not getting into the "powerviolence" argument here, because in my book they're grindcore:  listen to Despise You. The most aggressive shit ever.

Always liked that Possessed cover but the way they edited in the take of the little rundown guitar riff always sounds so funny, like a saxophone collapsing on itself in the middle of the song.
