Enthusiastic Eunuch is thrilled to welcome back ecstatic doom metallers, BIG|BRAVE of Montreal, who return to Dublin after an absolutely devastatingly beautiful and brutal set in Bello Bar in May of 2022. In further very exciting news, BIG|BRAVE, will be joined on this tour by Jessica Moss (Thee Silver Mt Zion/Evangelista)

"Big | Brave explode with the impact of a thousand drone and doom metal bands playing a folk song in unison." – The Quietus

"To adopt a term from their labelmates and drone metal masters Sunn O))), it's life metal. Listen mindfully, and you may feel revitalized" – Pop Matters

BIG|BRAVE, the elemental ensemble of guitarist/vocalist Robin Wattie, guitarist Mathieu Ball, and drummer Tasy Hudson, harness an earthen heaviness composed of distorted and textural drones, austere bombast, and Wattie's heart-rending voice. Like recent collaborators The Body, BIG|BRAVE is at the forefront of reconfiguring the landscape of heavy music. The trio brandish sparseness and density like weapons, cast tense atmospheres with languid tempos and mutate feedback into eruptions of enveloping tempests. nature morte sharpens BIG|BRAVE's ferocity and expansive sound into emotional elegies for the disenfranchised, wringing abstracted textures and pure fervency into songs of unfathomable mass.

With a spate of seminal releases on renowned underground metal label Southern Lord, BIG|BRAVE,  signed to the legendary Thrill Jockey label in 2022 and released their fifth album, the extraordinary Nature Morte that same year. Now they return to Dublin in tandem with Jessica Moss of Constellation Records for a line-up for the ages.

Jessica Moss

"Few musical voices represent so well the estrangement and intensity of our times—Moss is among the best of them." - TOP 10 MODERN COMPOSITION • A Closer Listen

Jessica Moss is a Montréal-based violinist, composer and artist whose expanding body of unique solo works for amplified and processed violin, voice, and electronics transmit an emotive, expressive sensibility shaped by post-classical, avant-folk, noise, improv, electroacoustic, artpunk and ambient metal. Her albums are distinguished by a distinctively searching, semi-improvised, through-composed melodic acumen that often channels Klezmer, Balkan and Middle Eastern tropes alongside Minimalism and drone, with an ear for textural grit and timbral noise. Also known for her fifteen-year tenure of cult agit-prop band 'Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra', Moss recorded and toured with the Vic Chesnutt band for the two albums released on Constellation and worked extensively with Carla Bozulich's Evangelista.

She has performed and recorded as a guest with many of Montreal's best known artists, including Big|Brave on their acclaimed 2015 and 2017 releases on Southern Lord. She was featured in Jem Cohen's Empires of Tin project, and joined members of Godspeed, Fugazi, White Magic and Dirty Three to perform the live score to Cohen's film We Have An Anchor in various locations at Europe and the USA. Moss is also a founding member of avant-klezmer group Black Ox Orkestar, who reunited to release the much acclaimed album Everything Returns on Constellation in December 2022.

Saw them in Glasgow a few months ago and they ruled. Absolutely spellbinding, and also punishing at the same time. Bring ear plugs. Also any excuse to see Percolator is always welcome

I've only seen them drummer-less in Montreal but I don't think drummer-less was the original plan. It was still really great but I am excited about drums. I like drums

With the initial seeds planted in 2012, with no other goal than simply experimenting with the instruments in their possession, Robin Wattie and Mathieu Ball started writing subtle ambient/minimalistic folk songs together. When long time friend Louis Alexandre Beauregard joined on drums, the goal still remained to play as tranquil as possible. After an incident where Wattie's acoustic guitar broke, and having borrowed a friend's electric as a replacement, larger amps that Ball had in storage from previous bands started to get incorporated to the outfit. Now with amplitude as a compositional tool, BB never lost interest in the power of minimalism and fragility. It became clear that loud volume would become just as effective as the lowest possible ones and the juxtaposition of both would become something BB still uses as their main MO to this day.

After self-releasing Feral Verdure in 2014, the band had the opportunity to open for Thee Silver Mt Zion in Montreal QC. After which, Efrim Manuel Menuck found something meaningful in the members and the band and invited them to open on future shows with Mt Zion and with Godspeed! You Black Emperor.

In 2015, the band entered the studio with Menuck and recorded "Au De La". With no home for the record, they decided to take a chance in writing to Southern Lord. As luck would have it, Greg Anderson happened upon their email among hundreds and responded. Since then, the band has had a home with Southern Lord Records. (Along with Au De La, Southern Lord has released Ardor in 2017, A Gaze Among Them in 2019 and VITAL in 2021).

After Beauregard's departure in 2018, the band traveled down to Rhode Island with Loel Campbell on drums to make a first record with Seth Manchester at Machines with Magnets. After the album's release, with Campbell unable to tour, Tasy Hudson joined the ranks and the band spent most of the year touring their 2019 album "A Gaze Among Them".

In 2020, the core trio of Ball, Wattie and Hudson once again made the trek down to Machines with Magnets to record their 5th LP "VITAL".
Since their inception, the band has had many honours and privileges of touring a number of times in North America and Europe with bands such as Sunn O))), MY DISCO, The Body, Thou, Primitive Man and Thee Silver Mt Zion.

Percolator

Since 2012, Percolator have been carefully honing their craft to become one of Ireland's most consistently arresting experimental bands, defying expectation at every turn. Masterfully navigating the spaces between subgenres, the trio's drone-laced, hypnotic motorik rhythms are offset by spontaneous, yet intuitive curveballs, elevated by their Stereolab-recalling vocal harmonies and the miasmic ecstasy of shoegaze.

DEAFKIDS' "Configuração Do Lamento" is an untamed release, happy to juxtapose monolithic drone riffage with frantic polyrhythmic detours, the band citing the syncopated beats of African drums as a major influence. It is a guttural, scorched mutation of psychedelia, that similar intent of frying the listener's perception, while void of anything approaching earthy wistfulness, wholly fluid in nature, paying no heed to any musical expectations other than the creators own internal logic. A bombardment of clanging percussion sits below relentless guitar battering, and a whole host of electronic tamperings, effects which in practice manage to further confound the proceedings. Using the term psychedelic in the absolute loosest sense is apt, as the band claims that "non-genre genres" are a chief source of inspiration, referencing anything from their own background in punk, right the way through to spiritual jazz, practically any form which allows the artist to experiment with the utter extremes of musical expression.

Brazil's DEAFKIDS are one of those bands buoyed by a mystic kind of momentum, a ceaselessness whose source lies in some vital, but unknown spring. Their music is a glorious cacophony, a mixture of pummelling Gnod-esque cataclysms and the traditional sounds of their native Brazil and Latin America; it's a brutal blend of hardcore punk, metal, experimental noise, and a pumping rhythmic vein with its roots in African and Indian polyrhythm. - THE QUIETUS

The act of venturing away from genre restrictions is by no means guaranteed to bring out the best in a hardcore band, but when it comes off it can be exhilarating. The second album by Brazilian trio DEAFKIDS is a fine example of expanded horizons done right. - THE WIRE

Qujaku
Formed in 2013, QUJAKU are a Japanese heavy psychedelic rock band based in Shizuoka. Their dark and heavy psychedelia filled with rich distortion and feedback creates a unique decadent ambience which is beyond comparison. The apocalyptic sound fuels your hidden urge to release yourself from everyday surroundings, and you find there is not only a brutality but also an ephemeral beauty behind it. The delicate yet strong voice, destructive guitar with feedback, repetitive rhythmic percussion, and deep and bellowing bass build the Qujaku's unique sound and atmosphere which preoccupy your mind once you experience it.

Since their debut UK & EU tour in 2015 and another tour in the following year with two festival appearances at Focus Wales and Raw Power, they have been developing the experimental approach to their sound while establishing firm melody lines. With an upcoming UK & EU tour and also 1st full-length album release in August, qujaku is set for further evolution in their career.
