Title: STEEL PANTHER... Cyprus Avenue, Cork... 17th Feb 2020
Post by: jobrok1 on December 04, 2019, 02:05:07 PM
So this popped up on my radar this morning...
Should be a bit of craic!

Wouldn't be my bag at all, but sure it's down the road and it's loud, so I might have a sniff. Work with a lot of French and Germans who are mad into this pastiche hair metal stuff. They think it's the best craic ever.

I heard one of their albums while I was being tattooed last year, I remember thinking it was alright but utterly pointless when the bands they're copying have albums out.

Steel Panther's debut is better, track for track, than any Crue album, I reckon.  A lot less filler than you'd find on a typical glam metal album.  Great musicians and a right good laugh.

This is glam we're talking about. They wear everything very much thick.

I'm not a hater but I always thought The Darkness did it better.

In fairness it does wear thin. The vocals are very one dimensional from the second album onwards and it's all the same theme too. I saw them when they played Vicar St the last time and despite Cork being much handier, I won't be going to see them this time, as you do kinda need to be drinking to really get in the spirit of it all.

Balls Out was the one I heard, I think (judging by the cover). Like I said, I didn't hate it, but I wouldn't go out of my way to hear it/them again.

Black and white corpse paint is the metal Ireland way tho, that sorta make up is well cool.  :abbath:
Unlike those big poofs.   :P

As none of us are likely to see van halen, this is the next best thing.

Wayward sons tho.......Jesus wept.

Many/any heading to this? I got a ticket but I'm half expecting it to be just me and the band.  :-X

They'd be moderately well known outside metal circles, right? I've heard one or two lads in work joke that they might pop along to it, who wouldn't be into the miotail at all. How many of those jokes translate into decent sales though is anyone's guess.

I'm nearly half tempted. Fuck all interest in them but it's ten minutes from my gaf and the fiancee is away. Could slip in and out without any of my friends and family realising, potentially .

It's one of those weird things where I'd be interested in checking it out from the back of the room if I knew there'd be a decent crowd there, but I'm not going to be the first person to crack and support the 'Panther.

Mind you I've grown to taking a slight, wry fondness for any band that pisses off the right sort of Authentic Serious Metul heads.

Ah you have no excuses so- pop in have four or five pints have a laugh and then fuck off home. I saw them on the dry the last time In vicar Street and thought they were unreal craic! There was a few cheap tickets going on adverts too...

Great night in Belfast, what's not to like? Great band, the way rock n roll used to be.

Some quare sights when the Belfast 'ladies' got on stage. Good and very bad!! Kaitlyn seemed to be having fun.  :-* :-*

Hot for teacher was immense!!
