Title: Karpackonaut
Post by: ochoill on October 10, 2019, 08:39:00 AM
https://karpackonaut.bandcamp.com

A few of ye might enjoy this so may as well post it.
Scott (Third Island Drummer) and I started this last week.  Karpackonaut is currently a jam/improv project, where we come in with nothing pre-written, have a brief warm up to get a feel for a theme or riff, then commit to it.  Whatever is recorded, if it is reasonably alright, gets mixed and uploaded as is -No overdubs, no corrections or rewrites, everything on the fly with a few mics on the gear.  We're uploading a song each time we do it just to keep it going.  There's two tracks at the moment, and if we keep at it there'll probably be five or six by the end of the month.

Right now it's mostly sludge / doom stuff, but that might change in the future, as well as the writing method and members, the idea is just to experiment with the whole project and upload it warts and all.  If anyone enjoys it, I'll bump this each time we fire a new tune up.

Lol yup, most of the time the hidden hand in any recording I'm on is a few of the finest 8 for €9's.  A pure astronaut for the Karpackie

Two more live jams up, now with more thematic artwork:

More or less the same with a mildly faster attempt in there too.

Karpackonaut - "Torn From Orbit" (https://karpackonaut.bandcamp.com)

We put up a few more tunes done in the same fashion today as an album, up for free on Bandcamp again.  This time with three of us, same fashion of slow, loose, freeform, one-take jams in the general vein of post metal (I suppose).  These were done last year but I only got a chance to mix them up there at the weekend.  Give it a lash at the link above if you fancy that sort of thing.  Cheers for listening!

Karpackonaut - "Transmissions" (https://karpackonaut.bandcamp.com/album/transmissions)

Same as before, three piece improv jams, recorded live off the floor, generally post-rock, metal, psychedelic, rock, all just trimmed and mixed as-is with the addition of a few samples here and there.  Self mixed and mastered, free to download, feedback appreciated.

Anything involving Terence McKenna gets the vote from me although I'm not sure he would approve of the Karpackie as the rocketship to the heavens....

Lol no I wouldn't say so.  If you imagine his few samples on there are about lashing cans in it gets even better anyway.

Actually now you mention it, if the cans are so transcendent I might drink the few Karpackie myself

Cheers for giving it a go, pretty happy with how the art came out on it alright, tough to get something that suits the music at times given how it's all done but I think it works.

Been a while - new release out today should any of ye be interested.

KARPACKONAUT - "LIGHT AS A PARTICLE" (https://karpackonaut.bandcamp.com/album/light-as-a-particle)

A new album, recorded in November 2021, with the usual line up - leaning back into the sludge/post-rock of earlier releases but proceeding as always: Roughly recorded in the jamspace, all music written on the fly and left as-is - no prep, retakes, or fixes, just the best cuts trimmed out and faded in, this time given a mix & master.

Churning post-metal, spacey rock, improvised experiments in loose sludge and raw doom.

Album currently up for the price of one can of Karpackie - but I'll stick a few download codes at the bottom of the thread should ye fancy the free copy.

Also featuring the forum absentee Astfgyl doing the mix and master on it.

Review over on Desert Vulture:
https://desertvulture.com/2022/01/22/karpackonaut-light-as-a-particle-2022/

"Light as a Particle" captures a moment in time, where the band evolves its sound to a more atmospheric, more organic, and yet more complete outcome. Their sludgy post rock is honest and their sound is vibrantly raw.

Nine Hertz podcast gave us a lovely mention and play on their podcast where they got the gist of us well - "... an invitation to be a fly on the wall in the practice room... darker, more sludge than before... atmospheric but blackened by doom"

Whole discography is up for a euro on Bandcamp and I couldn't be fucked changing it back to normal price, should ye feel inclined.

KARPACKONAUT - Distant Sequence
25 / 11 / 2022

A little blurb on what to expect:

The second release of 2022, recorded in various sessions across August/September 2022, "Distant Sequence" takes the usual Karpackonaut formula of full improvisation and tightens the output - Roughly recorded in the jamspace, all music written on the fly and left as-is, no prep, retakes, or fixes, just the best cuts trimmed out and faded in with a little mixing and mastering. This time, over fully instrumental jams cropped from these sessions, vocals were added after the fact, adding a level of form to the usual spacey, flowing, free-form post-sludge of earlier albums.

Slow, meandering post-metal, crushing sludge, stark noise rock and spacey stoner rock breaks within the usual loose and raw doom improvisations abound.

It's been a while, we did a surprise release today for our new EP "Conscious Oblivion", over on Bandcamp today free/NYP.  Give it a spin here:
https://karpackonaut.bandcamp.com/album/conscious-oblivion

Blurb off the same page:
After a quiet 2023 for the band, "Conscious Oblivion" returns to the form of the earlier works - Roughly recorded in the jamspace, all music written on the fly and left as-is, no prep, retakes, or fixes, just the best cuts trimmed out and faded in with a little mixing, as always, but including the vocal takes from these same sessions. The five songs on this EP were collected throughout the year while the band worked on other projects, and present a starker, more relaxed form than usual

Slow, meandering post-metal, droning guitars, crushing bass and spacey stoner rock breaks within the usual loose and raw doom improvisations abound.

Cheers for giving it a listen!
