Title: Sunn O)))
Post by: Hambeast on October 04, 2019, 12:06:13 AM
Sunn O))) have uploaded a new song from their upcoming album Pyroclasts which comes out on the 25th. It's along the same lines as Life Metal, although I wasn't expecting anything different.

Maybe the next one will be a bit more experimental? Another album along the lines of Altar or Monoliths & Dimensions would be great!

I listened to Sunn for the first time today while painting a fence. Had a few random albums playing on youtube, they're good craic. It's like heavy metal meditation.
Do I remember a post on the old forum saying that some people go to their gigs with sleeping bags, and lie down beside the speakers so they can feel the vibrations through their body? If so, I can see the appeal alright!

Just rediscovered them lately after not listeneing to them for years (Monoliths & Dimensions was the last one I'd heard). Really enjoyed Life Metal and Pyroclasts, great wine/fire/book/headphones listening.

I think their track 'Helloween' off the e.p. 'White 2' contains all you would need from this band. Have not investigated more recent releases by them.

I'm raging I missed their Galway show in the mid-'00s (I was skint), Justin Broadrick joined them on guitar. The stage in the venue was only about a foot high, apparently there was so much smoke/dry ice that nobody could see anything and everyone was wandering around disoriented by that and the sheer volume. Band and audience bumping into each other, all that.

I never really saw what the fuss was with these lads and have often heard the argument that I'd need to see them live to get it. However, I went on a right buzz of listening to Earth a couple of years ago and it tipped on into loads of ambient stuff. During that time I tried them again and while I'd have to be in a certain mood, I could see the appeal. Had that new one on the headphones last night and it was pretty cool.

Same here I never got the fuss around these lads but each to their own. The only track I think is semi-decent is It took the night to believe.
