One of the best metal records I've heard this year by some distance. Amazing melodic death/black metal clearly inspired by the earliest Gothenburg stuff (ATG pre "Terminal", Dissection, Eucharist, Dawn, and especially the first Dark Tranquility demo/lp), some "North From Here" era Sentenced, but still pretty much has a personality of its' own, Sits on the fence between the two genres perfectly, has it all - atmosphere, melody, manges to be complex without being wanky. Really good soundtrack for this weather too I find.
Not a lot of bands doing this style anyway never mind about doing it this well, really flowing and well written stuff. Art by the lad who did the Demilich and Adramalech album covers back in the day.
Check it out, well worth a listen.

Killer stuff, learned about Them via DeathMetal.org, which in recent years became this rather weird corner of the Internet, but once in a while they do dig up some gold.
Very, very good record indeed, I've been listening to this throughout last month on bandcamp and liked it more each time. May not be exactly the album of the decade those clowns from aforementioned site make it out to be, but well worth of time of everyone into Finnish DM or Darkthrone's debut.
Gonna give this a bump. Was very late to the party with Mefitis, but the newest one 'Offscourings' is absolutely unreal.

Great band, really unique.
The fact this band are without a decent record deal while the likes of Frozen Soul or Gatecreeper or whoever are having money pumped into them is outrageous.
Ya, both cuntish. Have had this liked on Spotify for a few weeks but am yet to press play.
I had them down as a brutal tech death kind of band for some reason. The description above has made me curious so I'm going to give them a spin. That artwork, though... really... And I'm typing that while wearing my Mystic Charm t-shirt and all!
Edit. Listening to Emberdawn and it sounds good alright. Not a million miles stylistically from Vircolac, in fact.
Listening to a few songs on bandcamp now, nothing hugely original but still enjoying it, might need a few more spins to sink in properly

I'm even later to the party than you! Just checking out this Offscourings album now for the first time as Artificial Brain gave it a shout out on their FB page earlier today. It's fucking class! Supposedly due to get a vinyl release later this year.

And it's on Profound Lore, so we'll actually be able to get it..maybe?I'm off to see if preorders are up
ah yeah, tis up now, preoredered the shit out of it, a thing I'm usually loathe to do.
also "Offscourings" is still available on vinyl here, shipping from France, if any other fellow nerds are after a copy:

Enjoyed that track, just threw on Offscourings now. Good gear.
Will definitely be picking this LP up. Better artwork for this one too, offscourings had a sort of shitty Bohemian Rhapsody cover so didn't mind sticking with the CD for that.
Yeah.. having listened to this almost continuously since yesterday evening, this might have BloodInc beat for album of the year for me. So good.
Started it last night and back to it now. Very enjoyable so far.
The Burton C Bell gone opera vocals may grate on some but I dunno, they just add to the grandeur of it to me.
I'd say these lads are absolutely no craic, but the music is spectacular
Burton C Bell gone opera has piqued my interest. I better give it a spin so
 Just on that track, or at least didn't notice them prior to this. I got a Norwegian vibe rather than Burton C Bell but can hear that. I think they work.
Sounds daycent. Yeah, maybe more of a Viking buzz. Burton Seabeard Bell.
yeah, with you on the Norwegian thing for sure, definitely the Arcturus ep buzz but more eh..well just more.
I was thinking how I'd love to see this live but there's so many layers in place they'd need about about three guitarists and a small choir. Wouldn't put it past them though, they dont do things by halves.
Speaking of which, I'd completely forgotten about the video they did for the last album, which is very well done. Would be curious to see something similar for the new one. The dude in the video actually looks like the guy on the cover of the new LP and all

Heard more of an Akercocke vibe in the cleans, but it's all gone a bit Bell-shaped to my ears since reading this
Banger of a record, up their with the best this year for sure.
Getting right into this now having not heard a note of them previously, wasnt expecting to like it as much as I do but I got a real Absu crossed with In The Woods buzz of it early on and it's a stuck with me.
One thing that irks me about this is those fade outs on a couple of tracks, like if you are going to put so much effort into constructing multi layered songs like these why wouldn't you bring them to a close properly instead of these (quite speedy) fade outs?
I like the speedy fade out. Plenty of old black metal songs utilise it to great effect. I get a real fuck you buzz from it, especially when there's another verse of lyrics fading out with it  cruder is gooder.
Never thought of it like that, there's definitely an element of fuck you, like ,right, that's yer lot, we're outta here
Big time. A song ends however it ends as far as I'm concerned. My one complaint at the minute though is the ending of River Runs Red. Such a savage song that just stops with a little roll like, "yeah we'll figure out where to take this song later" and then they ran out of time ???
Sorry for the necromancy - Kunal has copies of "Offscourings" on vinyl for locals over on the Superfi website
