I am posting this in the 'off topic' section because this isn't a metal band per se but today I was listening to 'Love Like Blood' and was curious about other songs or releases by the band that people here could recommend? I know that there are probably a few fans of the band here. Thanks :abbath:
Get Laugh? I Nearly Bought One!, it's a compilation from '79 to '90. Essential, and a good barometer as to whether you'd like them in general. Album wise: both self-titled albums, What's THIS For?, Ha! Killing Joke Live, Night Time, Revelations, Extremities, Dirt & Various Repressed Emotions, Pandemonium, Absolute Dissent, MMXII - all excellent. The Peel Sessions is also fantastic.
First s/t and "Whats this for?" are the ones I return to the most, probably them at their most abrasive anyway. Think they're playing here soon and I'd definitely recommend seeing them live.
Playing next week in the Academy.
Classic band, first 5 albums are all great for the post-punk stuff, with the debut being my favourite. Their last few albums starting with the 2003 self titled is really good for their more metal stuff.
Absolute Dissent is the one which does it for me, above all others. It's incredible and, if you don't like it, they're probably not the band for you. All the albums are good, though. The last one, Pylon, is also a great starting point. Amazing band, the material from 35 years into their career is just as strong as the early stuff. They only clicked with me a couple of years ago and now I can't live without them.

I only have Pandemonium and Absolute Dissent. Really must investigate more. Millennium and Pandemonium are 2 of the best songs of the 90s, without a doubt. I think I never became a huge death metal fan as songs like those showed a band could be incredibly heavy without needing growls. His vocals are just class.
And this thread should definitely be in the main forum.
Another shout for Absolute Dissent. The Great Cull is one of the greatest riffs known to man. And those lyrics! Pure class.
A shout for all of it with the exception of Outside The Gate, which is chronically shit.
Absolute Dissent, Nighttime and Hosannas from the Basements of Hell are my faves
Just reading Jaz passed out twice at their gig in London on Saturday. Hope he's alright.
Brighton gig seemed to go smoothly so all should be well for tonight. This should be fucking great, they were fantastic in Hamburg last year.
Any support for this?
A band called Radical Dance Faction are supporting. Not familiar with them but wikipedia says they're a punk/dub/ska band from the 80's.
Love to be going to this but once more, life got in the way. Sickened.
The self titled from 03 is shaping up to be on non- stop rotation in my car. It's so good. Grohl's drumming is ferocious and the song writing is so good. I think my favourite at the minute are the last few songs. It is great the whole way through but it ends on such a powerful note. Beauty.
Blood On Your Hands for me, just so vicious in the chorus. The album as a whole is fantastic though, and further proof that Grohl belongs behind a kit instead of out front peddling pap.
For those who might not know about it, I'd recommend the Murder Inc. album that came out in the early 90s - a band made up of Geordie, Paul Ferguson and Raven, the great Chris Connolly on vocals, and Martin Atkins from PIL/Pigface on second drums. It's a Killing Joke album in all but name.
Surprised it hasn't been reissued. 2 of my favourite tunes here:

Excellent album. The rapping's aged badly but somehow still works.
It was reissued along with the Corpuscle EP and a few live tracks as The Complete Murder Inc., but that was a good while ago now. It got a vinyl release in February:

Nice. I'll give these a spin tonight.

Yeah that's a great song.

Oh cool!I had no idea.

I'm in the minority here, but I think the follow-up album, Hosannas from the Basements of Hell, tops the 2003 s/t. The production is rawer which suits the band perfectly, and makes them sound even more fucking ferocious. The songs are slightly better too. It might be my favourite KJ album.
I'll grab it if it becomes available 8)
Murder Inc sounds interesting. I'd grab a reasonably priced CD of it ever emerged.
Have the Murder Inc on vinyl from way back, would love to grab a cd copy with the ep.
Re. KJ, Hosannas is up there in the top three for me, can't fault it.
I only recently started listening KJ, Pylon, Mmxii and Pandemonium are the highlights for me so far.
I love the way he phrases stuff.
It feels like quite a lot of bands owe a debt to them.
It comes up any time KJ appear in a thread here but yeah they are a massive influence on so much stuff. Love them. Still stand over "Extremities..." as my favourite but there's so much stuff and such variety across the catalog that it is nearly unfair to pick one album.
Anyway here is Godflesh covering Requiem https://youtu.be/31yhz6OT-z4?si=NzQ9Hpe9f7xHGudn
I thought Hosannas was a huge step down after the '03 s/t TBH. I haven't heard it since it came out so I must give it another chance. Their output was so varied that it was inevitably going to be hit & miss I suppose, but the high points are very high indeed.
I was disappointed with Hosannas when it came out, as I was hoping for KJ2003 Part II. I was wrong. The production suits the band. There's a joyous quality to the songs which makes it feel like a celebration. Invocation is basically KJ doing a bastardised version of Led Zeppelin's Kashmir, and it sounds glorious.
I usually skip Invocation for that reason. And it's sandwiched between the two best songs on the album.
Probably their best artwork, mental stuff altogether.
Stuck 2003 on over breakfast there - not a duff note on it. The House That Pain Built being the highlight, immense.

this is my favorite of theirs. Nerd trivia, Grohl played the drums on this album for free (due to the whole 80's track being somewhat ripped off as Come as you are)and played/recorded them after all the guitars were done which is rarely done
He drummed to the guitars? Mental. It sounds so precise.
Come as You Are is a rip off of 80s? Must listen to that song now and see if I can hear the comparison.
Edit. Holy shit!
Yeah, the litigation was in motion when Cobain topped himself, I presume it was dropped or settled in the wake of that, I haven't heard anything about it since.

 I used to show this to everyone years ago and every time, this was the reaction.
This one is a lot more blatant :abbath:

Eighties is as close to the Damned as Come As You Are is to Eighties

Never heard that before, fairly close alright.
Someone pointed put The Damned tune to me in the last few years as well.
Holy War by Lizzy also fits into the Love Like Blood and Dr Feelgood bracket.

mad isn't it? Grohl being a big fanbiy doing it for free after the guitars is very commendable. Some of his best drumming in my opinion.
He played to a click track, as did Geordie when he recorded the guitars in the first place. They had used drum machines in the past so no big deal to drop them out and put real drums in. It's fairly common these days for drums to be recorded after other instruments. Grohl, to be fair, seldom gets it wrong behind the kit.
Listening to Pandemonium at the moment, first time in maybe 20 years. Really takes me back, still a 'new' album to me, I'd been into them for a while at that stage.
My then girlfriend (who was as big a fan as I was) is a week out of double heart valve surgery, mad how fast and dramatic the world turns.
Anyway, it's still a beast of an album despite how desperately it's flailing about in terms of relevance.
Just talking to a drummer the other day about Killing Joke, he told me all the Grohl's beats were preprogrammed, he had to go in and copy what was exactly laid out for him.
Jaz is an answer in the Merriam-Webster crossword today, quite niche
And 24 across is Coal Man!
 :abbath:
The clue was actually "Coleman of the band Killing Joke", not your usual crossword fare

Pandemonium was the first KJ I heard and I loved it, but was pleasantly surprised to see how different the rest of the catalog was when going through it. Some absolutely serious songs on that album. Communion, Exorcism, and Pleasures of the Flesh real standouts but it is all great.

Coleman recorded some vocals for this in one of the Pyramids which is cool too. I really should get this on vinyl
