Title: Summer Tunes
Post by: Wiseblood on August 02, 2019, 02:31:33 PM
Down - Nola is so hard to beat on a day like today. Sitting in the office waiting for quitting time to fire up the BBQ and be drinking beers to Stone The Crow. Unbeatable!

Other super summer albums are Angel Dust, Deliverance and Draconian Times but Nola is the daddy... Now roll on 5.30 for Foreign Extra and food.

Had the most recent Therapy? album on while I was walking into town this morning, it went down very well in the sun.

Sky Valley and Circus by Kyuss. Masters of Reality s/t is bang on too, for a sunny day. Sonic Temple and Electric, all good.

Corrosion of Conformity - Wiseblood always goes down well in this weather.

I'll always give Devin Townsend's Terria a spin too, it's not very sunny day music but I bought it during a scorcher of a summer and listened to it nonstop

A lot of death metal classics for me too, just associations with wandering about with a walkman at the time: Leprosy, Blessed Are The Sick, Cause Of Death, War Master, Testimony Of The Ancients, Left Hand Path, False, and so on.

The ultimate summer album is Grooves And Messages: The Greatest Hits Of War. Trust me, if ever there was a barbecue/beach album, it's that.

Paradise Lost's Draconian Times is one for me. I remember saving up for this when i was 14 or 15 and being blown away by it when i finally got my hands on it. Its still my favourite album cover to this day as well.

Helmet - Betty. (Woozy yet brutal tunes)

Faith no More- Angel Dust (an album for all times of the year but just somehow has a more relevant feeling in summer, also helps that it was originally released in summer)

Agreed on Angel Dust. Among The Living is a summer one for me too, as are Kill 'Em All, Peace Sells..., Live Undead, Arise, Appetite For Destruction, Powerslave, Sailing The Seas Of Cheese... the list goes on and on. All time/place associations.

The year this came out I was working in the parts dept of a garage in Turners Cross in cork, bedt laugh ever working and i remember cycling to and from there every day listening to Draconian, saving my pennies, and buying a drumkit! Spectacular album  and great memories from then

The Devil's Blood, Come, Reap. Excellent psych rock without the grating mindless optimism of the sixties stuff.

I bought one of their albums based on a glowing review in Terrorizer. It was on eBay two hours after and sold/in the post the following day.

As mentioned already 'Draconian Times' by Paradise Lost is a great summer album, 'Enchantment' is a great opener and one of their best songs, summer or no.

Any stoner rock as mentioned already. Also REM-Reveal, purely for time and place associations.

Maybe Sabbath's Vol. 4 too.

Tripping Daisy "I Am An Elastic Firecracker", Jane's Addiction's "Ritual De Lo Habitual" and Fishbone's "The Reality of My Surroundings" are the ones I reach for once it's sunny, along with FNM and Mr Bungle.

There was a Sabbath compilation I had on tape years ago called Iron Man, compiled from the first 6 albums. Absolutely fantastic on a loop, for long summer walks around Dublin when I lived there. That and Master Of Puppets.

The feeling in the air the last few evenings has made me feel like it is time to switch to the Autumn/Winter playlist.
