Title: Demanufacture
Post by: DeletedUsermNqGIiIuGy on June 14, 2019, 07:19:01 AM
(https://e.snmc.io/i/600/w/dd81f35c99b60e724f46e7d4ba88b964/2689557)

24 years ago yesterday, what an album and such a contrast to Soul of a New Machine.

I remember hearing self bias resistor on a free kerrang cd and just going.. wtf is this  ???

Body Hammer still one of my favourite riffs

Still a great record! They hit the perfect formula on that one, great balance of light and shade, genuinely fast and aggressive largely.

I find it hard to listen to any of the subsequent albums, too much nu metal or I'll advised attempts to rap, though Mechanize is an exception- as close a sequel to Demanufacture as you'll get.

I remember seeing self bias resistor being played on MTV in studio and thinking I better throw out my flanal shirt and burn my cons. That was when the grunge scene died for me.... a week after my voice broke and I found alcohol everything when down hill since  :(

I did enjoy the demanufacture anniversary show. Thought burton sounded unusually on point but remember thinking he either got shit loads of lessons or it was backing tracks either way enjoyed the gig!

I enjoyed the Demanufature show but Burtons voice was all over the shop on the clean parts. Fact.

Here's a clip for you. Completely drenched in reverb etc

https://youtu.be/6YRE7eVWlM8?t=229

And here's a clip of Regenerate from the same show, the clean vocals were clearly pre-recorded

In fairness even though he doesn't sound the best ive seen FF  more times than i can count and he always sounded like shite! so i welcome the reverb!!

on a side note : i f*cking hate  people recording gigs on their phone and to upload it to youtube pissses me off even more.   >:(

Yep I'd agree. Just thought you were being overly generous with your appraisal of auld Burton, let's refrain from giving him a medal just yet.

Was absolutely fanatical about this album as a teenager. Very few duff tracks, maybe New Breed at a push. This, along with Burn My Eyes, are two albums which seem to define that particular era of mainstream metal for me. That video from MTV is gas, you can see the insidious nu-metal beginning to creep in, from the coordinated Adidas clothing to the retarded jumping. I didn't mind Obsolete too much, but not a patch on Demanufacture. And of course, both Machine Head and Fear Factory went on to release two of the absolute lowest points of that particular era in The Burning Red and Digimortal respectively.

you just reminded me about the Adidas fad, in Ireland it was the scumbags wearing  it, but the NU metal scene totally made it its own, from Jonathon "daddy abused me" Davis to even MAX "Jump ta fuck up" Cavalera  (soulfly era) Deftones etc etc  adidias must have made a fortune !

They were the very first Metal band I got to see live. It was the SFX gig Oct 24, 1999 with Will Haven & Cubanate on the Obsolete Tour

https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/fear-factory/1999/sfx-hall-dublin-ireland-5bd313a8.html

The set list was savage and the encore like!!!

Just to add, cubanate were the worst. Being boo'd off the stage "we will be back dublin.. and you will like us etc"

"FUCK OFF YIS USELESS CUNTS" xD

Burton could never sing live.. it was always the worst part with them outside of Dino taking his top off!  :-X

The dvd they released which shows old footage of them live at the time of SOANM.. I love Scumgrief and his voice cracks so bad on it.. sccUUUmmmM gRRIieeff it's actually hilarious

Burton's annoying habbit of singing songs  like  something something something.. DES-TIN-NAY.... blah blahblah -AH-TOR-RIT-TAE on what seems like so many songs.

The first 3 albums are fucking great and Archetype tbh. Digimortal.. I think I tried to convince myself I like it at the time but it was so overly produced it had zero soul. I laughed at transgression and just gave up them as it was just the same thing over and over.

Superskin seemed to open for every band that played here for about two years, utterly atrocious

Still give Demanufacture a spin every now and then. The only other Fear Factory I'd really listen to anymore is Archetype which I always thought didn't get the praise it deserved, and has been totally removed from their live sets

I actually ran a mini bus from Cork  to the gig in 95,can remember very little about the gig now.I do remember a guy diving off an amp and landing on a buddie of mine, fuckin serious height he dived from!.
Met the band after and got our tickets signed, fuckin care free times as a teenager! didnt appreciate  it enough!.

The support on the SFX were a band called Pet Hates who were from Celbridge,  or one or two were anyway.  I was so excited to see a band from my town supporting a real band and they were fucking atrocious.  So embarrassing.  FF were deadly though.  I can't remember when I last listened to Demanufacture at this point but it was a big deal at the time.

Adored Demanufacture for years, loved FF in my teens.  Still enjoy some of their stuff but by christ did it go downhill.  Only albums worth a nod at all:
- Soul of a New Machine
- Demanufacture
- Obsolete
- Mechanise
Rest it needless.  Demanufacture top of the pile.  Still gets a spin every now and again, great album.  Love the clinical approach to the drums, which was apparently caused by them losing the tom mic tracks from switching engineers while recording.  Rhys Fulber brought out a solid clinical industrial element in that band, for that album, which they never got quite right ever again.

Seen them on the Mechanise tour in the Commodore, Vancouver.  They were excellent, and having half of SYL for the live band really made it.  Vocals are dodge live alright though.

Great album altogether. Those 2 tracks at the end. Wow! Only saw them at that recent one in Dublin. I thought his vox were pretty good at the start but they did dip in quality. There was defo some magic done tho, whether the synth lines were louder or he had some vox on backing tracks. I thought it covered up his inadequacies a little too well.

Seen those pricks more times than I cared to.

Tattoo The Planet
Napalm Death
Ozzfest
Will Haven
Machine Head

Pet Hates, yeah, how the fuck did they get that gig. Knew one of the lads from the band through a friend, complete and utter tosser who started every sentence with "When we were asked to open for Fear Factory".  Much like Wynona Bleach getting the AIC gig. I mean I do love it when a local band deservedly gets a slot and holds their own, can think of countless examples, most glaringly Mass Exctinction completely blowing Nuclear Assault away in the Village, but that's merit versus someone's dad ringing up and getting the kids a gig because they know someone.

Their shittiness that we were all subjected to at some point in our gig attendance life has been fully ingrained in the back of our minds that when you think of a shitty support band they appear in your brain like a cunt in the fog

He's a fookin sleeze! My friend and her boyfriend got a photo taken with him backstage at one of those Dublin gigs years ago. She's seriously hot.
So good old Dino stands between the two of them for the photo and while it's being taken he's having a good old fondle of her arse unbeknownst to her loving boyfriend. Proper durt burd that fat cunt.
