Title: Sigh - Heir To Despair
Post by: Blizzard Beast on November 24, 2018, 12:38:38 AM
I hadnt followed much of Sigh's releases since Hail Horror Hail album so was surprised to see a new album mentioned in the 2018 thread but the new album sounds great, after a couple of listens.
They've certainly changed style a bit from the early days of Scorn Defeat and Infidel Art.

I have followed them and got tired of them to be honest, will give this a listen all the same.

There's some very random stuff on that album but some really good tracks too such as  Homo Homini Lupus
and Hunters Not Horned which reminds me of Borknagar and Cruachan in parts.

Had it a few days now and it still isn't sitting right. Not the first time it took me a while to get into a Sigh album though.

Really enjoying the new Sigh. A bit tamer than their other stuff. More prog but plenty of craziness.

Tame is the word alright.  I miss the crappy production of the older albums, just made the whole experience that bit zanier.

The crappy production was unintentional. I remember reading something about them running out of money for Gallows Gallery and they couldn't afford to get it mixed, so they made up a story about it containing sonic mind control techniques invented during the war or something

Back on a Sigh buzz lately. I picked up Imaginary Soniscape and there's a hell of a lot to take in- some amazing, some good, some eh, funk... ok, you just have to kind of roll with it I suppose and when it's good it's so fucking good. Presently spinning Slaughtergarden Suite which is phenomenal. It sounded like a black metal Clutch in the first part. Wherever I am in it now I have no idea but it's industrial, neoclassical doom maybe? Sounds bloody great whatever it is.

I also picked up Shiki and had it on earlier. Not an immediate winner for me but it might grow.

Scorn Defeat I found dull when I bought it a few years ago but it is finally working its way under my skin. There's a heap of mid to recent period stuff I'll have to wade into. I might try Heir to Despair later.

Was listening to the new album yesterday and really enjoying it. I tried it last year and thought it was awful so I am not sure what changed unless last year I was listening to something else that I had mistake for the latest album. The drumming is so good on it. But it still doesn't compare to Scorn Defeat and Infidel Art.
