Title: Sleep - Matt Pike out.
Post by: ldj on June 18, 2026, 03:24:01 PM
Didn't see this coming, new Sleep music coming, Matt Pike is out, Dale Crover is in on drums and Bubba Dupree (80's HC band Void) is in on guitar.

New song is fairly uninspired.

That is laughably poor, which is actually sad given who the two new members are. The fact the bass is so prominent say it all really.

Christ, that is woeful. Reminiscent of a Sabbath soundalike play-along jam track that you'd get with a guitar magazine 25 years ago.

The solo is terrible too - like a halfhearted first take played on a Fisher-Price guitar.

Awful, but then so was their last album so I wouldn't put it down to Pike's absence.

Very true.

On the plus side, if Bubba Duprees involvement turns more people on to the Void stuff, then that's good.

That's a fairly depressing listen.

There's a distinct bang of "keeping the brand alive" off every aspect off this tbh. Can't begrudge Cisneros making a few quid considering they built the genre in fairness.
