Title: Obsidian Dust 2026 - Brussels, 16/17th May
Post by: StoutAndAle on January 08, 2026, 04:52:26 PM
Picked up a ticket for this newish, small festival. Expanded from one day to two in this, its second year.

https://obsidiandust.be/

Solid (if not setting the world alight) line-up. It'll be a bit of craic. €110 for a two-day ticket.

Flights etc. are all very reasonable for 3 nights too.

Just hoping that the Belgians know how to make a decent beer...

Yob and a few others announced for this today.

Ticket got, looks like it could be a nice replacement for my usual Desertfest Antwerp trip which is moving to Liege this year.

Just read the YOB announcement. Absolutely delighted with that.

The other bands mentioned in today's release - I don't think I've ever listened to any of them.

There are a fair few bands doing Obsidian Dust and Desertfest Berlin/London on alternate nights - The Sword, Hermano, Red Fang, King Buffalo, Dope Purple, Earthless, Cardiel, Blackwater Holylight.

There are a few others that are on the Desertfest lineup who could fill a gap nicely at Obsidian Dust - Causa Sui, Russian Circles and Toundra.

More bands announced for Obsidian Dust - I've never heard of any of them. There is a fair amount of filler scheduled for this now.

I'm happy enough with YOB, Gnod, Conjurer Ufomammut and Earthless but that's not much over 2 days.

COILGUNS will unleash a chaotic blast of hardcore, noise rock and experimental metal.

GNOME will deliver playful but thunderous stoner rock packed with groove and fantasy. Wizard hats on, riffs up.

COLTAINE will rise from haunting calm to towering doom against a post-metal wall of sound.

The wild punk blast of FRENZEE, the crushing industrial sludge by FANGE, the cosmic drone rituals from NEPTUNIAN MAXIMALISM, the gritty sludge-hardcore of CROUCH, and the expansive post-metal atmospheres by ECHO SOLAR VOID.

Some great stuff on there overall.  I've seen Coilguns before, "Millennials" is a savage album, highly recommended.  I am currently in a Coilguns tee

Neptunian Maximalism also class, semi-imrov mostly instrumental big band sludge sounds terrible on paper but I would love to see it live, last couple of releases were great.

Before I posted that last thing, I actually thought to myself "Have I heard Coilguns before?" but I looked at their discography and nothing looked familiar.

Maybe you mentioned them in the past.

Didn't Coltaine support Faetooth at their gigs here a couple of months ago? They're not bad.

No idea - I was away when Faetooth played in Cork.

I did hear that whoever the support bad was blew them off the stage though.

That was Coltaine, yeah, I enjoyed them at that.

Coilguns are savage craic live, caught them at Damnation there and it was fairly relentless.

Neptunian Maximalism are absolutely amazing to my ears anyway, a many-headed hard psych machine. Seen them once, and I'd probably put them up there with YOB on that lineup in terms of stuff I'd be focused on seeing if I was going.

Coltaine were indeed far better than Faetooth on their recent shows here , well worth checking out.
Coilguns were deadly live, caught them in Galway maybe 15 years ago?
Heard one song by Gnome called Ambrosius. Whopper riff and tone, but never got beyond that. Bit of a novelty band maybe but could be great craic
