Title: Cutthroat
Post by: Eoin McLove on November 04, 2025, 10:36:34 AM
Two new local bands I'm excited about at the minute are Callous Master and Cutthroat, so I feel it's appropriateto give them their own thread. I have the new demo on order but it'll probably take ages to get down my way and they haven't uploaded anything yet. I initially thought the name and logo were a bit shite but they've actually grown on me. Simple and effective name with a crude, back of the schoolbook logo which is kind of perfect for a demo. Has anyone received their tape yet? What's the sound quality like?

Stuck in an order for the tape too but haven't got it yet.  Something I never do anymore is order something blind but I did it with this, for the sake of the tenner, only going on hearing good things about them here.  And the physical only lure is too great

Yup. The odd blind buy is a nice thing.

We had them support us in August. Young hungry lads looking to make noise. Sounded good on the night plenty of riffs and attitude.

Need to grab a tape.

Wouldn't order it deaf be more to the point?

Is this is the same band?

I presume they dont sound like this anymore going on the rave reviews you're all giving them, this doesn't sound much like the descriptions above and more like some sort of Venom/Midnight thing than the blurb suggests. It's pretty awful.

Yep that's them. I think they have progressed a bit since then. Two years is a long time when you're a teenager learning your trade.

Fair point, of course. Was just surprised given the buzz here when I heard this. I'll wait til they have something more substantial out to investigate further, cos I'm afraid I wouldn't risk a blind buy based on those bandcamp tracks.

Yeah well it's a risk, but sure... no mercy, non merci.

Unless someone else does a rip, it looks there's no plans for any uploads.

I would have given this a go for the craic but I've no tape deck at the moment.

My copy arrived in the post yesterday (it only had to come up the road to Bonn from Mannheim, so I'd imagine I'm a couple of days ahead).

I will give it a whirl this evening after I finish working, along with the three other tapes I bought.

My copy was numbered 62/66, so it would probably be a good idea to act fast to buy it.

Mine arrived earlier.
Lashing it on for a spin now.

First track is a ripper so far.  :abbath:

Edit: the whole EP keeps the intensity right the way through. Same as their live set. Deadly stuff for a bunch of young lads.

My tape arrived today and I'm giving it its first spin here. Fuck yes! This is really good. Points for breaking ground- nil. Points for riffage and ugly thrashing madness- 666! Nice production job on it too. These bucks sounds like they could have been vomited out of the 90s Aussie scene. Fukkin nice spewy vocals. Like a black metal Reifert maybe?

It really does sound like something that came out of Oz in the mid to late nineties, or maybe France or the US in the early noughties. Not exactly my cup of tea, but it is very well done and I am sure they must be a ripping band to see live.

I see they've signed up with Dying Victims. That label seems to be hopping in recent years and looks like a good fit.

Ya, fair play to the boys. Great label to be on and seems like perfect timing.

Intrigued by em, and the general good feedback they're getting. But still haven't heard a note! Hopefully they put a track up soon...

Their last tape was a banger.
And they were lethal at the Siege yesterday.
My order is in, anyway.

It's a re-recording of the demo tracks plus a couple more? The artwork isn't up to much to be honest, but I'll grab a copy.

I like the sound of that! Pre-ordered the new one.

Have to admire the "no-tunes online" approach too, but wonder how long that can last. Cool to see Dying Victims take on a young Irish band.

Fair play to em, solid tune. Production sounds class.

Vicious little number and full of wild, youthful energy. The lads are doing themselves proud here. It's not going to revolutionise metal in any way, but it's full of ferocious raw power which is the best kind of power! The solo is cool but the highlight for me (again) is the putrid vocal delivery. I would love to hear those vocals over some slow, evil riffs.

Again, shame the artwork looks like a bit of an afterthought, but I'll be picking this up when it's released. Might even nab a tshirt just for the logo  8)

Nail on the head here. Am particularly intrigued to see how/if they'll shape and hone that wild energy into something unique as they go on. Gotta catch em live asap.

It's a double edged sword. The more they hone something unique, the higher the risk of them losing that vital edge. But who knows. Let's wait and see. If they manage one good unhinged album before they discover jazz and polo neck sweaters I'll be happy

 well I have space in my heart for polo necks and jazz in metal...I doubt theres much of a risk of that here though, this is barbarous stuff after all.

I'll usually take the polonecks and jazz nowadays but to be fair that's better than I expected it to be. Deffo hear some Slaughter/"Pleasure to Kill" in there, memorable riffs.  Good luck to them.

Actually, just listening to it a second time, it dawns on me what it reminds me of, the old Crypt demo. I doubt they'd have heard them, but it's not 100 miles away from it.

Artwork looks class on a t-shirt, to be fair.
My young fella and his 3 buddies all got one at the Siege after being blown away by them.

Cool that your young lad and his pals are metalling. Any of them taking up arms in the name of Satan or just observers?

Couple of them have their own thing brewing in the local CDYS.

And my young fella is on drums for these local lads...
