This is possibly the weirdest thread I have seen in ages, but I approve
First album that came to mind was Saxon's Denim & Leather.
After a little think (which is very hard for me) I would have to say my favourite is...
Iron Maiden - Live After Death
Seventh Son definitely.
Haha, love the theme! Will have to double check a few that come to mind but a couple recent ones not mentioned yet:
Stormkeep - Tales of Othertime
Sweven - The Eternal Resonance
And speaking of tales:
Amorphis - Tales from the Thousand Lakes

Yeah, laid back rock & roll, with sort of a stoner buzz. More '70s influenced than weed fuelled. Main man is Chriss Goss, who produced a lot of the 'desert' scene bands. That album is brilliant, they're hit & miss after. Deep In The Hole, Welcome To The Western Lodge, Flak 'n' Flight & the unreleased album are all great IMO. You might have seen this video back in the day:
https://youtu.be/3zkxklzhAn8
I never saw that and have definitely never heard them going on that song. I would have assumed they were fuzzy kind of stuff by the name. Interesting.

Worth giving Pine/Cross Dover a go in my opinion, it's an odd record but very class and has stuck with me for years. Love it.
First two that came to mind were Abigail and Storm of the Lights Bane, but looking them up they're a lot less blue than I remember
I'll go with these two instead1988themremasteredqh8-1-.jpgIcedearthaliveinathens.jpg

Soulside Journey
Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness
Nocturnus - The Key
Immolation - Failures For Gods
Cryptopsy - Whisper Supremacy
Death - Spiritual Healing
Portishead: Dummy
And fittingly:
Weezer: Blue Album
Well that's a shitload of blues but I think only Anvil has nominated a definite favourite in Live After Death and Pentagrimes with Soulside...
Mc Love's on Seventh Son too I see
Altars is a definite.

Altars yep. I'm taking Spiritual Healing, it may not be the best out of this lot but it's where I popped my DM cherry and even back then I knew that striking and unusual cover would be something I'd be seeing for the rest of my life. And it is VERY fucking blue !
Ooh that Athiest could be going to VAR

Are we going to be sharing our favourite green albums for Paddy's Day?
Some serious albums getting shown here, I doubt green would have a look in
The Somberlain
Storm Of Of The Light's Bane
Hammer Of The North.
Ride The Lightning and Nightside already mentioned.
Yep I was waiting for someone to nail Dissection.
Wisdom Floats was a beauty from Mc Love early on too.
Some favourites from my youth

Some serious albums with a blue tint tbf :abbath:.
The jeans doing the heavy lifting in this Lizzy one but fuck it I'm including it. Blue Record by Baroness is both a class album and great artwork too. Controversial, but Spiritual Healing might actually be my favourite Death album too, the perfect mix of the early classic DM sound with the slightest hint of the more proggy direction they'd go in with Human.

Blucretia
Just having a flick through here, a few notable albums that are primarily black but the only or main other colour is blue, Stained Glass Revelations and Värähtelijä for example.
Some not in here yet
Lost Horizon - Awakening the World
Summoning - Minas Morgul
Exodus - Bonded by Blood
Obtest - Auka Seniems Divams
Lethal - Programmed
Immortal - At the Heart of Winter
Twilight Force - At the Heart of Wintervale
Orodruin - Epicurean Mass
Hirax - Immortal Legact (Take it to VAR, perhaps)
Battleroar - Blood of Legends
Stratovarius - Visons AND Infinite
Bathory - Blood on Ice
Punishment Blue? Whoa, never knew that, that's class. The first three I thought of last night while I was tossing and turning were Spiritual Healing, Left Hand Path and Rust In Peace so that's cool to learn that. Damn, Punishment Blue eh, love it!
Edit : Ah fuck I see what your at ye hoor, a pity because it sounds genuine and pretty cool, well done !

All that's missing off that cover is a Sonata Artica logo!
Something Circlepit said about a Green thread for Paddy's Day made me think of this. One album mentioned in this thread would also be a legitimate entry for a Predominantly Green Cover thread...Go on then, fastest fingers first..
Novembre - The BLUE.
I've seen Ocean Machine mentioned on the first page but if there was ever a blue album, it's that one

Nope, not Yes, the key here is to acknowledge the obvious, that an album cover can't be both predominantly Blue AND Green...

It was Maggot Colony that made the Paddy's day reference.
What's being going through my head is how many albums have red or red tinged artwork.

The first red one that popped into my head, was Maiden's Dance of Death mainly because of how atrocious it is.
The greatest blue album cover of all time is Live After Death, nothing else comes close
Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness
Xentrix- For Whose Advantage?
Forbidden- Forbidden Evil
Sepultura- Chaos A.D.
Heathen- Victims Of Deception
Judas Priest- Painkiller
Icon- Icon
Accept- Metal Heart
Outrage - The Great Blue, Japanese thrash metal from early 90s. Nuclear disaster themed artwork, pity I only have the CD version
Another blue classic I've been playing a lot recently.

This is a great thread, was flicking through the collection this morning looking for blues and ended up listening to some classics I haven't put on in a long time
Faith no more angel dust.jpgRush Fly by Night.jpgThe New Order.jpg
Funnily enough I wacked on Nocturnus - The Key after seeing it mentioned in this thread. Think I will have to stick on Fly By Night now!
The favourite blue ones I can think off the top of my head
Maiden - Seventh Son
Children of Bodom - Follow the Reaper
Devin Townsend - Ocean birth machine
Dream Theater - Change of Seasons (EP but whatever, there's shorter albums than the title track!)
Rush - Fly by Night
Nevermore - Dead Heart in a Dead World
Porcupine Tree- Fear of a Blank Planet
Pink Floyd - The Division Bell
Symphony X - Paradise Lost (kinda grey but slightly blue tinted)
Great idea for a thread. I don't tend to pay as much attention to album artwork in the last few years, since going digital it doesn't stand out as much which is a shame.

This thread has been a bit of a head wreck. There have been plenty of albums I think of as being predominantly blue but, when I have a look at the cover, they're not blue at all, or barely so. One example being Testimony of the Ancients. The penny has dropped that it's because of the colour of the cassette inlay, in my head I still associate it with the album cover as a whole. When I wanted to hear that album, I would look for the blue spine on the shelf, same for Unquestionable Presence, though that has at least a decent splash of blue. Cunty 😂

I would have always considered albums like Nightside Eclipse and Storm of the Lights Bane very blue, but looking at my copies they're a lot more purple. Don't know if they've just faded that way over time, or if I picked up some weird (bootleg?) versions
Don't know about Nightside Eclipse, but Storm of the Lights Bane certainly has prints across a broad spectrum of shades.

Some hue of that, my one is virtually grey
Which version do you have? My reissue doesn't get much bluer.

If we're doing BG, best do their best!

Blind Guardian, what a call! Always felt like some weird internal guilty pleasure even though I've no shame in saying I love them. But I'll take Somewhere Far Beyond over Nightfall any day. Actually nightfall probably wouldn't make my top 3 :o

Ah it's an old cassette a friend of mine picked up in a market in Turkey back in the early nineties,.MG records..bootleg as moonshine and any blue was probably faded well out through the Summers back then when you'd take your ghettoblaster to the park with your cans. Come to think of it that old double deck stereo of mine was blue as well and I've been eying up one the same colour on Amazon for the nostalgia of it.
Haha deadly!
More purple, but a hint of blue :)
Not only is it my favourite Helstar album, but also the only
It's a brilliant album

Oh yes,.love a bit of Helstar, not ten minutes ago I pulled out A Distant Thunder to add to the listening pile. Great minds..

Same, I think Nightfall is great but I'd probably have a top three of Somewhere Far Beyond, Imaginations, and probably controversially, The God Machine
For me, Tales, Somewhere, and Imaginations sound like build ups to Nightfall. Don't mind the later albums, but they don't grab me either, would take the first two over any of them.
Quote from: The Great Cull on March 14, 2025, 06:31:05 PMWell green would just be a clatter of Type O Negative and Overkill...
Or a clatter of Autopsy... for the day that's in it taking the blue into green, and then green baby

Listen to this one a fair bit, forgot it fits in here perfectly.
CHRCH - Light Will Consume Us All (2018)
Great doom album, start to finish, lovely crusty blackened section towards the end.
My favourite shitty blue album cover:
I genuinely love this cover despite the fact that it's horrendous looking. Great album as well for anyone hankering for a black metal band from Alabama ripping off Nightside era Emperor.

Whoa, a sea of blue there
The Pagan Prosperity! Such a savage album.
I don't think I saw this listed yet, but the detail at least is predominantly blue. The logo and backdrop takes from it though
Ah that's a bloody stretch snare
As a Warhammer nerd I love that art work... While the Space Marines are the Crimson Fists, they are a successor chapter of the Ultramarines, so the cover counts as blue for me
Apologies then, I should have adjusted ;) 22f45445b5f4ed4bca093ed98cba877d.1000x1000x1-3878914689.jpg

Quote from: Trev on March 12, 2025, 10:05:17 PMTwo great releases from 2023, two blue covers, two worms involved

I was thinking those when first reading the thread, nice one. However I'm unsure everyone saw Hiss as being blue...

I don't believe a word of it from earache, I think they're taking the piss to pull in €10k for something that cost them nothing extra. Pure scam!
Great White - Hooked

ohhh, that's below the belt
Carcass - Swansong. A lot of people don't like it but I love that album.
Just occurred to me The Chieftains are mad on blue, look at albums 2, 4 & 7. No. 4 wins the prize outright hands down.
Dark Tranquility- Sky Dancer
Nighrwish - Oceanborn
