Title: Teitanblood - From the Visceral Abyss
Post by: Mithrandir on February 25, 2025, 08:52:46 AM
Pre order starts today Norma Evangelium Diaboli, release date 28th Match. The blurb has me excited, "Teitanblood at their most unhinged" - can't wait.  Standard affair with the artwork, cool I guess if a little expected, definitely ain't got a patch on Ketola's stuff.

QuoteTeitanblood returns to claim underground metal's most lawless frontier. "From the Visceral Abyss" is an all-engulfing tide of unfettered, raging chaos – where black and death metal collapse into a maelstrom of destruction. Its force is neither random nor aimless but guided by an instinct sharpened over decades.

This is Teitanblood at their most unhinged, yet wholly assured in execution. Dissonance and precision collide in monstrous, writhing riffs, underpinned by percussive violence that shifts between merciless blasting and dirge-like weight. Layer upon layer of bile-drenched vocals coil through the cacophony, forging a suffocating atmosphere of grotesque grandeur.

As ever, the album is steeped in the restless spirit of the late Finnish artist Timo Ketola, who stood as both interpreter and architect of Teitanblood's visual world. Ketola's oracular visions provided the scripture from which these lyrics emerged – his legacy not merely preserved but carried forth beyond the grave. The tradition of transmuting sound into imagery continues, with Dávid Glomba filling the booklet's pages with a dense tapestry of illustrations, sigils, and hand-scribed invocations.

The cycle is eternal. The dead shall die again, their bodies will be feasted upon by worms, and the voice of the black earth will proclaim to those who sleep in the dust with the tumultuous clamour of empty graves, overshadowing the clouds.

Artwork is really a nothing affair. I'll give it a cursory listen but I'm not expecting much.

Hopefully they made more of an effort with this album than they did with the last album.

Press releases like that are such a waste of time. Cut and paste.

Yeah. I get it, it is about generating a kind of head-space for the potential listener, but it doesn't tell you anything at all. But then, this is how they have always operated, shrouded in obscurity, so why not.

It's not them, it's the genre. It's the same language on repeat. There's not much else that can be said about it, in fairness, and you'd not get away with saying "it's really deadly, trust us" but sometimes it would at least feel authentic if they did.

I have The Baneful Choir on for the first time. I became bored by this style over the years due to over- saturation, but maybe I need to give TTB another go.

Only bothered going back to, and getting into, TBC about 3 years ago and enjoy it now for what it is. First 2 are untouchable. Look forward to seeing what they come up with next.

Ah yeah I usually find these press releases a bit of an eye roll, like they've used some sort of kvlt metal thesaurus. I just have a soft spot for them because I love Seven chalices and Death so much I give them a pass.

Yeah I get that, the burnout is real, there was a point a few years ago where it felt like there wasn't one discernable riff in the music I was listening to

Yup. I hit a brick wall with that stuff a few years ago but after a break from it, and in small doses, I'm enjoying it again.

Absolutely this. It's the ould sound and fury signifying nothing. Aesthetics became more important than music, still are in some areas of the underground, and that's fine, but i couldn't fuucking care less any more.  the first 2 TTNBLD are funnily enough the only thing in this realm I go back to when I feel the need for that kind of thing, but I'll not be rushing out to pick this up straight away or anything.I'll give it a listenwhen it's out though.

Is this style still a thing in the scene? I got the debut at the time, there was a fair amount of hype. I've double checked the shelves and nope it's not there and must have been rightfully purged at some stage. Bar the early Malthusian gear and the odd other bit here and there I found most of the stuff complete nonsense to listen to.

I'd need to throw on ACDC after a Teitanblood session to recalibrate

There will always be a market for this type of stuff with the NWN/ROD crowd but I definitely don't think there's as much hype around the the whole wall of noise Impetuous Ritual/Grave Upheaval/Wrathprayer..etc stuff, it's been done to death.  Seems current thing is Necrovore/Abominations MA/Incubus sounding bands, which is fine by me! (Might just be what I'm listening to and not necessarily a trend, could also be argued it never went away)

Much better than the last album.

Ya, it's great and has been getting better with each listen. The very end of the album sorta implies that it'll be their last release.

I like it. Feels a lot more memorable and listenable than most of the previous stuff, couple of genuinely great songs on there. A fine note to go out on.

Savage on first listen, but there'll be many more. It's sounding like a continuation of baneful choir, which I though was great.

Getting a hint more of a Swedish feel more so than previously, mainly I the solos and slower parts.

7 Chalices is a far superior album and Death is also better but this is great.
