Most will probably have seen the images of the Tivoli being dismantled by now. It's a real shame to see it go, I don't think it's too dramatic to say it's another reminder of how souless Dublin has become.
Some great gigs in there over the years, but really looking to hear anecdotes from the shows in the early 90's, Carcass? Was anyone at the Rage against the machine show there? And what exactly happened at the Biohazard show, heard that was pure madness?
Really loved the venue--was too young for its original hey day in the 90s but DME had some stellar acts play there the last few years. Looks like it's back to the Academy now- not a terrible venue either though in fairness.
Yeah, I was at RATM. The support Whipping Boy were a sizeable disappointment because the ticket said Tool were supposed to play and they did the UK dates. Imagine that line-up now. The thought of the ticket price alone makes me wince. It was just that Sony Ireland were pushing their new signing Whipping Boy hard. Shame. Otherwise it was a great gig, Wilk playing with the drums facing the back of the stage. The best gig I saw there was the Beastie Boys though. It was just after Ill Communication came out and before the Sabotage video "went viral". It was the lineup with DJ Hurricane and Bobo and it was fucking amazing. They played the RDS about 6 months later when that album finally started shifting. I remember seeing Cathedral and Hangnail there in the late 90's too.
Sepultura, Obscura and Goatwhore was the best of the recent ones I went to. Sad times, when a good venue vanishes and there's nothing to replace it.
Wow, didn't realise the Beastie Boys played there. One I would've loved to have gone to was Paw - some fucking crackers back then.
I was at the Cathedral gig myself, think that was moved from Vicar Street or the Shelter at the last minute. COC was my final show there, not a bad one to sign off on. Enjoyed Paradise Lost there too last year.
Shame to see it go, one thing i loved was the view of the stage regardless where you stood, was a nice layout!

Regarding the Biohazard gig. The security were being asshole's hitting people who were trying to stagedive, etc so the band got involved and dished out some slaps of their own.
Was at the Biohazard gig, it WAS madness. The way I understood it the venue didn't know the kind of audience they were getting through their doors, moshing galore, the security got a bit out of hand and the show was over after about 20 mins or so... lights on, concert over. It was cool on the other hand cos I got to talk and hang out with the whole band after.
Oasis played their first gig in Ireland in the Tivoli for what it's worth....
Saw paradise lost there on the Icon tour....Saw them again there recently, along with Satyricon... Cool spot.
Superb venue. Shame to see it go. As others have said great view of stage from anywhere.
Last few gigs I saw were ministry, paradise lost. The venue made them gigs. Unique.
The Sepultura/Obscura show was the only gig there I made it to, but was at a fair few of the OTT wrestling shows, was a great spot, shame to see another venue gone

from a band point of view, twas the nicest stage I've ever played on. So much space. 'Twas nice not having to dodge Darragh's micstand for once !
There's a load of hoarding and building work going on at the Ambassador, wishful thinking that might come back for gigs?

Saw Carcass in The Tivoli in 1994 but didn't realise this until 2014 as I mentioned in the Now Playing thread... :laugh:
The Tivoli was a cracking wee venue and as Stenchy said in the OP, Dublin is becoming soulless.
I can only but imagine what it's going to be like after the shit Covid shenanigans.
Hopefully there's some bright young or old sparks willing to give the place a much needed cultural injection.

The Tivoli was just before my gig going time in the 90s,remember wishing i could have gone to the Carcass gig in 94.Went to a few gigs there when it started back up doing metal gigs again.Cool venue,grand yard area out the back to chill and talk shit.
