Drowned are savage!,been years since I've seen them live! (That time with Dead Congregation in Dublin whenever that was)
Five Will Die! I was only watching an old interview with them on YouTube a couple of weeks back. Will be cool to see them again.

I think that was 2014.
Going to try to make it down to this for Drowned. Have seen them plenty of times but haven't seen them in years or since the new material came out.
Never been to Siege before so how does the free in thing work? Do people ever get turned away because too many show up or is just a case of heading to Dolans early to get a wrist band then coming back for the bands you want to see?
I was always curious as to how this can be free when I know a big issue with a lot of bands not coming to Ireland is costs / not getting a big enough crowd yet a band like Drowned can play a free show in Limerick? I know they are not the first or biggest international act to have played this festival bigger bands have played before when it was also free in.
Yeah be curious to know how it works!,like the Dolans complex is a good size.So I'd say a massive crowd would need to turn up for it to become a safety/capacity issue.Id imagine on a day long festival, you'll never get everyone looking to be in the main stage venue at the same time. There is the bar ,a massive bar/smoking area upstairs, the small venue, and the main stage venue.Would you get 400 max throughout the day for something like this?
No wristbands, you just walk on in. You would get turned away if it's full, but I'm not sure if that ever happens.
I've been there once or twice when they had to close off the main stage due to full capacity, you could wait outside and then they'd let you in whenever people came out.
Yeah it's free entry but Bad Rep sell a lot of merch, so they're getting a bit of money in every year, which is great. Every year they have Siege t shirt designs made up, people will que on the streets for up to an hour before the doors open, and the shirts usually sell out within the hour once they start selling. Once they're gone, that's it.
The bouncers are generally sound as fuck too, but there is one ballbag there with an attitude problem. Fucking garda head on him and all.
Quote from: Paul keohane on August 26, 2024, 01:45:24 PMWould you get 400 max throughout the day for something like this?
The capacity for the warehouse alone is 380 at max and a few times over the years they have hit capacity and stopped letting people into the warehouse(the big stage). That's pretty rare and they will let people in after others have left so you wouldn't miss anyone that you really want to see.
There's no wristbands as many people come and go during the day rather than just letting a specific number in so there's no official attendance number but I'd say it's easily >1k between the younger kids in early and then the crowds that arrive later in the day. The whole building in itself has never been at full cap at once at a Siege but it gets mad busy, there's just a lot of spaces between the 3 venues, front bar and the new terrace and smoking area upstairs.

Turn up to Dolan's, walk in, enjoy :abbath:
Been to many festivals over the years and Siege is right up in the top rankings for craic.
Thanks lads i'll check it out. I have been to Dolans a good few times for shows since the pandemic and always found the venue great.

Not all the bands get paid. You could probably draw a line on the poster at some point and all the bands above get paid, and all the bands below don't.
Class lineup, might actually get down.
Interesting to see how it works - I assumed you queued up to get a wrist band. I will be down early anyway if I do get going, their merch is always unreal.
Ya top 6 or so bands get paid. Everyone else plays for free. Tbh you'd get the best crowd you'd play to all year probably so even though you're not getting paid it's the one gig most bands want to play each year.
Also craic is 90.
Yeah I figured not all the bands got paid especially most of the Irish ones but I knew for example a band like Drowned couldn't be flying to Ireland to play a show for free. It seems like it's just one of those unique festivals that runs on reputation and can make money through merch which is great. It's pity we don't have more of these meaning we could get more international underground bands to Ireland who otherwise would never play here.
Haven't been to a Siege in fuckin years.
Can't wait for it!
This one has been creeping up fast! Less than a month out now, really looking forward to it!
I'd love to tip along to this (especially as it's on my birthday) but I'm flat broke, christmas coming up too.
Geting harder to get to any Siege these last few years.
Fingers crossed I can spin up for this one.
Even if only for a few hours, it's still worth it.
I'm excited to see Acid Throne I've been listening to a lot of their stuff lately :]
:sniffles:

I am really digging the track from Naut. Looking forward to checking them out, as well as Five Will Die & Vircolac :abbath:
Is it usually a day or two beforehand that they publish stage times? Just wondering about planning a possible trip
They'd likely be up mid-late week next week yup.

Surely will see a few of ye today at this. Looking forward to it now
What a great day!,some craic.Tbh I was only there really to see Drowned who didn't disappoint; set seemed very short though.
The bouncer who was standing in front of the stage;wearing a Georgia state t shirt, what's the buzz with him?.Seems a right power hungry aggressive prick!.He was a bit ott when dealing with people up the front!
My first Siege and thought the setup was really cool. Could even sit down and watch the football for a bit.
Yeah plenty of tv screens around to watch the match,a great bonus!

That bouncer is the only negative about Dolans.Power tripping bullying shite from him the whole time.Got asked to leave for "enjoying yourself a bit much"at Xentrix.Bollix goes out of his way to be a prick.Unacceptable for metal shows
He's a big intimidating lump, like there's literally zero trouble at any metal shows in Dolans I've been to.Why is he positioned there right at the very front?,like when the warehouse is pretty packed of course people are going to bump into him.Hes shoving people out if the way, threatening them etc, no need for it.
Am there 8-12 gigs a year and it's disgraceful the carry on of him.As I said he's the only negative about the best place in the country for metal
Is that the fat bloke with the grey hair? I saw him last night moving people away from the front of the stage before bands would start playing which I have never seen at any other show. Seemed like a prick. I have been to maybe 8 - 10 shows in Dolans and that was the first time I saw him last night. The bouncer I usually see is a foreign lad who's Polish or Russian or something that always came across as nice would say hello etc. when you walk in.
I enjoyed Drowned but still haven't warmed up to the new album. It's exactly what you would expect from them and is almost like a bside version of Idola Specus. The songs on the new album don't grip me the way Idola Specus did, I remember being blown away by some of the stuff on that when it first came out. It was sad to see G.ST raise his hand when he walked out just before they started to play and he got no reaction from the crowd. At least they got cheers in between songs.
Lad I'm on about is the small, bald head of security
Paudge? I've always found him to be fairly sound, always seems to be chatting away and having the craic with everybody.
Yer man with the beard (Ali, Ari?) seems sound too.
The other lad looks like he fucking hates metal heads.
I was only there till 5pm myself. Had the young fella in town, so had to leave early.
Would have loved to stick around for Drowned and 5WD.
5pm is really early for all ages.
Even if they just let 16 to 18's till 7 or 8pm or something.
There was a large crowd of younger ones throwing shapes for Zealot Cult before they had to leave at 5pm, and the couple of mongo heavies acting the maggot who were shoving them all over the place.
That was when the bouncers set up shop in front of the stage.
Never had any issues with security in Dolan's, they are all very sound, have been to and played countless gigs in there now and always been treated great by them and the staff. There was an incident in there a few years back where someone broke their leg in a moshpit and one of the outcomes was moshing has to be limited so people can't get injured.
Siege was unreal sport this year, still recovering here. Busy all round, crowd was in great form. FWD set was standout, also saw a rake of other bands. Shardborne, Uncultivates, Fraught, Grief Eater, Worn Out, Famyne, Drowned, Brigantia, Orbiter - all deadly. Missed a few bands I would have liked to see but it's impossible to catch everyone and I was so poisoned later on that I can barely remember after Worn Out
Good auld turnout in the Kasbah for the Ordinator set too, delighted. My body aches
Quote from: Lurker on October 28, 2024, 06:28:43 PMLad I'm on about is the small, bald head of security
It's not the same fella this lad looked like a slightly smaller version of Don Vito from Viva La Bam.
Quote from: ochoill on October 29, 2024, 11:30:17 AMNever had any issues with security in Dolan's, they are all very sound,
I felt the same until I saw the way the fella mentioned already was behaving. He didn't do anything to me specifically but he seemed like a right prick who was antagonising people over nothing. Was a kid a bit over to the right of me that was being pushed forward from people moshing behind him and the bouncer just kept shoving the kid back towards the people moshing. He couldn't have been more than 15 or 16.
Had a great day but funny ye mention, I noticed the same thing. They definitely seemed a bit more hands on than usual, even since the incident, not to an outrageous extent or anything, but enough to make the atmosphere a bit weird at times I thought. I overheard the guy talking at some point (I think) and he just didn't seem to be having a good day at all, seemed fairly pissed off. Didn't see Podge there at all and he's usually on the ball in fairness.
Anyway, fairly minor gripe to be honest, still the same usual great day of enjoying music and catching up with folk.
I've never been. The whole thing looks brilliant and the merch looks savage.
Yeah huge selection of Merch!.The Venue is as good as anything you'll come across anywhere. You have to traditional pub;the small venues, the main Warehouse. But it's the upstairs area that really ties it all together.
Quote from: Circlepit on October 29, 2024, 08:43:23 PMI've never been. The whole thing looks brilliant and the merch looks savage.
The best gig ever
Brought the kids (12 and 14) in til 5pm then the missus took them home
They loved it and particularly enjoyed shardborne.
I thought drowned were great and famyne were a surprise for me too.
Good day out
I had a great time at the Siege as usual. Felt very busy even from early on. It was hard to get a decent spot in the kasbah and upstairs for some bands. Fair play to the bar staff, was never waiting long to get a drink.
Some of my favourite acts were FiveWillDie, Fraught, Dog Tired, Zealot, Ordinator and Uragh. Thought Famyine were decent but got bored after a few songs. Good sets by Tooms and Worn Out but only caught bits of them as the stages were mad busy. Also thoroughly enjoyed playing the warehouse with Shardborne.
I get people not being too fond of the security but I think they are being fair enough, knowing some of them they are actually very fond of the metal gigs/fans and are pretty sound as long as people aren't hasseling other punters or getting overly aggressive. Moshing is strictly not allowed in any venue, the fact they let people mosh at all is a blessing. Sure we'd love free reign to go mad but as long as people want the Siege and gigs to go ahead they'll have to put up with some presence and intervention from them.
What a day out that was!
Uragh wouldn't really be my thing to listen to, but they sounded great and put on a good show. Had the place hopping at 2:15pm and fair play to the youngsters for getting their mosh on early before the floor inevitably gets slippery as fuck with drink later on.
Shardbourne were class, hadn't seen them in a while.
Host Body also very good.
Saw some medieval lad (GEHEIMNISKNECHT?) using a synth for uncomfortable sounds and rubbing a knife with a (contact mic?) attached to it along his chain mail and in his mouth. That was interesting to watch!
Five Will Die were class, great stage presence you'd swear they'd been playing together on the regular all this time.
Gets a bit fuzzy here on out, I saw Acid Throne and Dog Tired, don't remember much other than a lot of headbanging. Couldn't even tell you what genre they were, but it was a lot of fun.
Fair play as always to all involved, organisers, staff, bands and sound crowds 🤘
Cracking day out for sure. Drowned were deadly but seemed a very short set at spot on 40 minutes. Fraught were vicious upstairs and the pit there seemed much rougher than in the warehouse but better natured. There were a few hefty lads in wife beaters in the warehouse that seemed to be up for a bit of a ruck so security were spot on for nipping that in the bud.
Shardborne were great, the bang if Rush off the second (new?) track was cool.
Famyne started off great for first few songs and then nosedived into mediocrity. Couldn't watch the singer who had a great voice but looked like a stage school Zelensky.
Orbiter were cool, loads of fuzzy riffs and Brigantia too although I reckon they're missing the extra hefty of Mick on guitar.
Geheimniskneckt was an interesting performance with the chain mail and dagger, wondering if he was gonna cut himself .
Tooms sounded pure hefty but Kasbah was jammed so hard to get a decent spot.
Ordinator were cool, real touch of industrial and punk to the live sound that I didn't catch on the ep.
Host Body bored the arse off me, just seemed like more of the same from loads of English bands with shouty vocals , keyboard over the top and breakdowns , yawn. Caught a few more bands but can't recall much more now.
Real mixed crowd all day, seemed to be a good few international heads around too. Roll on Easter!
There was one particular cunt in a wife beater that needed a good hiding from security. Prick was throwing underagers around like rag dolls.
I wasn't even in the pit and got shoved in the lower back by him at one stage and thought my spine had snapped.
